Subject: Salamanders using Land Speeders?

Not sure if this is the right forum, but seeing as I don't actually play Warhammer, just model it, it seemed appropriate. Anyway, I've just finished a set of Salamander Terminators, but before I paint them I need to get some more paints. So I thought, I may as well order another model while I'm at it. Thing is, I'm drawn to land speeders and assault marines, but given the Salamanders preference for close quarters fire-fights (no pun intended ) and Nocturne's low gravity , I'm not sure if either of those choices are wholly appropriate. So I thought i'd put it too you guys.

I thought nocturne had hi gravity that fluctuates making it hard for ships to travel. But in the tome of fire trilogy they use land speeders on nocturne and its neighboring planet. So I'd say your cool and I use them with my salamanders all the time so you aren't alone!!!

My memory is that Nocturne has fluctuating gravity, so speeders are tricky to use. I don't remember if they don't use them at all or just rarely though. Although, I have seen someone here do a Salamander speeder, so go for it I say.

Given that assault marines are a bit lack-lustre for normal Codex marines, I would go for the land speeder.

If modelling is what you love about this hobby then model whatever you want i say. However to answer your question, Yes, land speeders and assault squads are fine in a Salamander Army.
Salamanders are still part of the Codex Astartes and therefore every Tac marine has to be trained in all types of squads, as scouts they will train on bikes and landspeeders, later they will be trained as devastators and assault marines. These choices are fine, and its always fun to challenge yourself by painting new models.
Also 2nd, 3rd and 4th company all have 2 assault squads and land speeder support. Also the 7th company scouts have Land speeder storms.
Hope this helped.

@Chancetradgedy - You could be right about Nocturne having High-Gravity, I think I just got it the wrong way round.
Thanks for the replies all, Land Speeders it is And I do believe in the Novel 'Nocturne', a Land Speeder is featured, in use by Salamanders so I guess it's not ruled out, just made less use of.

I'd say have a land-speeder, since all the Salamanders ever had as limits there ( 0-1 ) was back in the days of codex armageddon, thus really old now.
Is the decision already made, which of the 4 known variants we may see?
A basic one? A "tornado" , a "typhoon" or a "storm" ?

@1hadhq - I'm quite taken with the 'Storm' variant that has the scouts hanging off it. Much as I like the idea of Land Speeders dripping with all kinds of heavy weaponry, i'm drawn to the much more animated quality of the Storm I was considering converting the scouts to full battle brothers, but I doubt the Land Speeder would take that weight realistically.

It's funny I am reading Nocturne right now. They mention a land speeder, but in the same breath it's mentioned that they are rare.
I'd say go for it, but if you are concerned with fluff I would avoid a bike/speeder heavy list. I would also say in the book their speeder is said to have a heavy bolter, but I think either that or a multi melta would be fluffy.

Yeah, I read the same in Nocturne and Lexicanum backs it up. I'm not too concerned with 'lists' as I don't play any games, but I didn't want to get one if they aren't used.
