heres a 2000 point blood angel list,
Mephiston 250
Astorath 220
2 x sanguinary priests, jump pack 150
Furioso dreadnaught, frag cannon 125
Drop pod 35
Furioso dreadnaught, frag cannon 125
Drop pod 35
Assault squad, 2 x meltagun 210
Assault squad, 2 x meltagun 210
Assault squad, 2 x meltagun 210
Assault squad, 2 x meltagun 210
Stormraven gunship 200
the idea is that mephiston will move up behind a unit of assault marines with a sanguinary priest in for a 4+ cov/ 5+ feel no pain which one when needed, the dreadnaughts are to distract, bullet magnet and hopefully cause some quick crucial damage to the enemy, astorath is just for the 3- roll on the red thirst, the list comes to 1980 what would people change?

You've recorded the Furiosos twice and the total comes to 2060 even with that error corrected.
Also you've put a quarter of your points into two models. Never, ever a good idea.

At 2k its not so bad of a thing. Mephiston is going to soak up so much fire, because nobody ever wants to seen him get into close combat. While they are focusing on killing him the rest of your army will have an easier time getting in the enemies face.

no with the error corrected, it comes to 1980 i have a calculator on the computer, and as valace2 has mentioned people will be trying to get rid of mephiston, and at 2k quarter of your points into hq aint that bad if you balance out the list, also with the dreadnaughts when they come down right in the enemies face are you just going to leave them because of mephiston, yes if you are an idiot. this is how the dreadnaughts help out, as they are pretty nasty template weapon and 5 attacks on the charge i think, so not something to just be ignored especially when deepstriking.

I'd bin off astorath if you're not taking DC and put the points to more good use

It depends. If I have a squad of tactical terminators, I will crush Mephiston like a bug. Mephy being AP 3 makes him hard to justify for 250 pts. Oh, and he can't join units and only gets two powers.

I suppose an answer to that would be drop astorath and take a squad of assault terminators to counter these kinds of effects.

But its worse than that. A squad of broadsides or oblits can now tarpit Mephiston for a long time.
While the above can be avoided potentially, what can't be avoided is how ineffective of a psyker he is compared to say an epistolary. Divination have many awesome effects that only go on the pskyer *and his unit*. Mephy doesn't have a unit, so he's in a vacuum. I can get way more total utility out of an epistolary making my army better than a single gimped beatstick.

he is a huge point sink and pratically needs looking after all the time, probably better taking someone like dante or astorath for what they do.

I think dante is massively underrated. But that's just my 'drop him in with jump 10 assault marines' theory. Slash slash slash.

Dante is a mixed bag imo. He lacks eternal warrior, so power fists are a major threat to him. However, if he's in a squad with say a sergeant to soak up challenges, he can kill a lot of stuff.
Making sanguinary guards troops is a pretty good trick, too. In many ways I prefer the sanguinary guard to DC already, but as troops, they are way better, imo.

Mephiston being AP3 really hurts him, as units with 2+ saves can just tarpit and hold him up now. As mentioned, a Terminator squad can potentially take him apart now, all because his sword is AP3.
He's still good (T6, W5 and a 2+ Save is brilliant), but 250 points, no Invulnerable save, inability to join units and his close combat attacks now being AP3 has hurt him quite a bit. I'd rather use the points somewhere else (maybe a Chaplain/Reclusiarch if you run DC?) ; I personally tend to run Dante instead and give him some Honour Guard- though in 6th Sanguinary Guard are improved so they might be worth using instead.

I think an epistolary is a good replacement. He is a great buff monkey, and enables squads instead of being a beatstick himself. Remember that the divination primaris power applies to HTH as well.
