So, I am in a very fun situation of having finished some time bumming around America as part of a gap year, I find myself with a lot of time left, and a lot of money left. I'm not doing the wise thing and saving it for university, I'm wasting - no sorry - spending, it on forgeworld. I'm no great painter or modeler, but I really love the aesthetic of the pre-heresy legions, so I figure, what better way to practice than on models you're oh so afraid of ruining because they cost SO MUCH.

Anyway! I'm starting a Sons of Horus army following a recent dakka poll, so thanks - if anyone who voted is reading this, consider this the fruit of your efforts. Any help you guys can give me as I throw caution to the wind with my crazy modeling schemes would be greatly appreciated.



This is the entirety of Horus's mighty army as it stands.

Really sorry about the picture quality, we have some really fancy photography equipment in the house, but we have a lodger staying with us and it's all in his room, so I'll post better pictures later in the process.

Thats quite a bit of forgeworld kit how much did that cost? I wish you luck with the project, I'm sure it'll turn out great

Right so, I've made a couple more guys, and here they are!



First HQ, DV Librarian sans Dark Angels Icons.



Second tactical squad upgrades



2 more tactical troopers, one with a top knot, because that's stylish according to the sons.


So, I have a contemptor on the way, and I have to finish this second tactical squad, but then I have 10 marines left, now, rule of cool, what should I use these for? Heavy support teams? Support squads? - suggestions would be great.

Lastly - how should I base them? Wanna do something good but I can't decide.

Will be buying more after I take my girlfriend to London, who knows how much money I'll have left...

So I decided to just make all my guys tactical marines, for now. Still waiting on my contemptor to arrive, and when the Justaerin terminator bitz end up on ebay I'll make my HQ followed by a squad of terminators.

That's the plan, who knows if i'll stick to it.

Still curious to hear how people think I should base these guys.

Trying to work out a paint scheme at the moment, Think I might go for a more conventional green.

Long way to go, but the army is legal now! Both tac squads still need 5 guys, but they have hit the minimum.


Anyway, still looking for basing Ideas, and still waiting for my contemptor, hasn't been too long though, so I'm not fussing, I just don't have anything interesting to say.

Except it feels awful when you lose a forgeworld piece, one of the biggest reliefs I have in life is finding them again.

So, why am I posting the same picture as before? Hey... that's not a glue pot... THAT'S A DREADNOUGHT! So, he finally arrived, but used up the rest of my glue... So there's more on it's way, but who knows.

I decided on a basing scheme, going to have a snowy urban theme, because I really liked the cities of death, so felt urban was a natural choice, thought I'd add the snow to give it a bit of a twist.

So, waiting for more glue, and I'm planning my Preator!


I'll start basing them up whilst I wait.

Liking this so far am toying with an idea of going loyalist for the Heresy always love a good HH thread.

Oh well... taking my time churning through 30 guys, still cant wait to get my terminators, but I refuse to blow all my money on forgeworld!

Here we go, 2 more WIPs, The Dread needs a brass etch where the Aquila usually goes, you can see how bad my freehand is from the librarian. The librarian is a bit rough around the edges which posting these pictures helped me realise, so a bit more work is going into him.





They also both need snow on the bases.

Had my first battle using this army.

- The librarian in a group of 20 marines and an apocathery is amazing, expensive, but has brilliant staying power when you use divination.

- The Warlord traits are very nice, not overpowered but offer some nice uniqueness and are less likely to be irrelevant to your army - the Praetor himself equipped with a paragon blade and digital lasers is mean in close combat.

- The dreadnaught in a dreadclaw is expensive, but placed right has great potential to make its points back and more.

- Terminators are still the same good old reliable terminators with some fun twists,

- and finally, the Spartan is an absolute monster, played well nothing can really reliably take it down other than haywire attacks.

I think these guys look excellent I was thinking of getting a Spartan for my Chaos force. Nice to hear they are tough to shift. Keep up the good work

Unfortunately for me one of my main opponents is Dark Eldar I dislike haywire grenades

Ah man that sucks, I only came up against it because of a pyromancy psyker, which ain't gonna happen all that often!

Still got 5 more to make, and yes I have been painting too, working on my tac squads but they are taking a while because I'm lazy.

Got me some brass etch, the terminators have some on their shoulder pads, but you can only really see it from above, the librarian and dread should have some on them soon.

now all I need to finish this army, well, I say finish, but do you ever really finish an army, Is a spartan and apocatheries.

Yeah man, fortunately I have the upcoming distraction of building a board that I hope to feature on this blog, so that should prevent me spending money. On the Sons at least!
