Subject: Questions that came up during recent CSM game

I just got back into 40k a few months ago (last time I played was during 3rd edition). The last couple weeks I started playing Nurgle Chaos Marines (was playing Tyranids prior to this). I've recently started expanding the number of people I'm playing against, so have started running into more varied understandings and interpretations of the rules.
In the last week or so I've had a couple questions come up that I have not been able to find answers to.
One person has told me that the +1 Toughness that marines receive from riding a bike only affects the To Wound rolls against them, it does affect Instant Death determination. The bike squad in the chaos marine codex only has a single entry for toughness in the stats. This did not come up during a game, so we did not have rulebooks available at the time, he said it was a special rule for the bike. I have not been able to find anything to back up his statement, or definitely prove it wrong. Am I missing something, or is he thinking of 5th edition?
If he is correct that the bike dosen't make a difference for determination of ID, does the Mark of Nurgle then follow the same rules?
Secondly, how/what do the Obliterators shoot during overwatch? With the way it is worded I can see argument for using the same weapon that was last chosen during the controlling players shooting phase (since the choice is only made during the shooting phase). Possibly an arguement that they can not shoot at all during overwatch, since their ability says chose what they will shoot during this shooting phase.
And last, not chaos specific, but I could swear I read somewhere that units can not shoot through other units (whether friendly or foe), all I can find now is reference to other units providing 5+ cover save. Is this correct, you can shoot through other units at any time, and I'm off my rocker with what I think I read, or are there times that you can not shoot through other units?
Thank you for any answers,
--Kurz

1) There are no longer (T) values on the profiles, for older codexes the Toughness between brackets is the actual T and is counted towards ID. The CSM codex being the 1st 6th ed. codex already have the bikers T included on the profile, so only S10 can instakill bikes.
2) Oblies cannot overwatch, they have S&P rule which denys them the ability to overwatch and to run.
3) You can shoot at anything as long as it is on range and you have LoS for the targeting model. You can usually shoot through infantry allowing them a 5+ cover save.

To be more clear on #3, you may shoot between models of a unit, or between gaps on the model, but you don't actually shoot through other units. You still have to actually see the enemy model through the gaps of the unit.

Thank you for quick responses.
So, does this mean that Bike marines with Mark of Nurgle (Toughness 6) can not be Intant Deathed unless the weapon/model has the Instant Death special rule?

Pretty much yes. Disclaimer: There are Psychic powers and special abilities that can lower their Toughness, after which they can be ID'd by 2x S as normal.

Regular bike marines with nurgle only have 1 wound, so ID doesn't matter.
Now if it's a character on a bike with multiple wounds, then ID matters, or if it's slaanesh bikes with FnP ID would matter, but regular bikes or nurgle bikes are not really affected by ID.

well ID only really matters for models with more than 1 wound, so unless a champion got a bloated result on the boon table we would probably be talking about Chaos lords and sorcerers. So yes, a chaos lord with MoN and a bike can take demolisher cannons, DCCW, Gazzy PK and the like without suffering ID. Of course he only has 3 wounds, so it isnt like he can do it all day.

As mentioned above any -T modifiers do change the T for all purposes during that turn, meaning ID and no FnP.
Yesterday I had a game vs Blood Angels, in which my sorc got the enfeeble psy power from biomancy (-1T & -1S), cast it on a unit of FnP death company and then flamed them with the helldrake, 10 FnPs denied and dead loyalists without armor or FnP.
