Subject: What colour plastics did GW use for their models?

On a Canoptek Spyder's Waiting List

So, I've just started stripping some old models, some of my own and some from friends, and I've got down a few heavy levels of poorly applied paint and reached a layer of green. These are Space Marines I'm stripping at the moment. Initially I thought this was just yet another layer, but after some scrubbing and even chipping away with a modelling knife I can't find a layer underneath, which makes me think that this might actually be the colour of the plastic underneath... except that I don't remember green plastic space marines at all?
Is this something GW did make, or do I just need to scrub harder? The colour of the plastic is close to a Dark Angels Green, if you're wondering!
Thanks guys!

I remember purple and tan for SMs, and the modern dark grey.
Cut a limb off the model. You can cement it back easily.

they manufactured some blue space marines for a bit, wouldn't surprise me to find out about green ones.

Someone gave me a series of green space marines, they aren't painted, they're made out of green plastic.

There were a variety of weird plastic colors for SM, weren't there? Not to mention the wacky metallic necrons.

Some of their earliest stuff came out in various colours, the first plastic marines were in cream and green that I've seen. After 2nd edition 40K they seemed to stick to most things being grey. Some of the other games like Space Crusade produced figures in all sorts of groovy colours though. Pictures of your green models would be nice but it's uncommon that recasters cast in plastic, if that's your concern, they're probably real.

I don't think so, unless someone has constructed an entire space marine out of it.
I'll probably end up cutting a hand off if I can't scrub it away, to be honest!

I'll confirm cream/green marine kits, some guy mailed me a huge bag of them, said they've been laying in his garage for yearrrsss.
I think they're mostly beakies if that matters. I'll look for 'em later when I get home.

They made RTB001 in Green, dark blue, beige and grey.
At the time, they were subcontracting their plastics to the company that made the plastic inserts for Matchbox cars, and got whatever was cheapest in that material.

Yup, i agree. Quite likely you have a marine from the first Space Marine kit, made during the Rogue Trader (1st ed) era. Usually they were tan, but I have a squad that is green under the paint.
