Evening Dakka,
So, the thread name says it all.
As a new BA player, what is better to join a squad of AM?
FNP and Furious Charge vs. Rerolls to hit.
I have yet to experiment with the Chaplains but so far, FNP just hasn't been cutting it for me.
Thoughts?

Well. FNP took a nerf vs small arms and got a buff vs medium arms, notably plasma. 5++ is not great, but it does stack with cover so that's something.
If you want the chaplain mechanic, pay 30 more and get the reclusiarch. He is a badass and fulfills the HQ requirement. In general, I'm a cheapskate for marine HQs because I hate their point inefficiency. But if you get an assault led by a reclusiarch off, the target is probably not liking life. But you're taking hits in return vs meqs because we lost init 5.
My current favorite trick for BA is to get a biker priest and give bikes FNP. This is particularly handy because they are T 5, giving them double 5++ saves vs all kinds of nasty stuff.
In general, I'd say the priests are more valuable for the army as a whole since they will potentially save you a ton of wounds. If you are running a libby with jumpers you can get the shield of sanguinius for a 5++ cover save too. I prefer divination, however. Divination is epicly good.

I've been looking at both the Libby and the Reclusiarch. I'm just not sure where they would fit in the rest of my army is all.
Currently I have:
4 assault squads (all magnetized with the special weapons and all that).
10x Death company with jump packs
1 Stormraven
1 Baal Predator
2 groups of Sanguinary Guard
Dante and Astorath
I have plenty of bits for conversions into nameless HQs and ICs, easy. Just trying to figure out where/what to do with them.
Edit:
I also am kind of sad to look and see that the most competitive meta for BA is Razorback spam, of which I own none.

Well I'm not sure razor *spam* is the best set up because we can't assault out of them anymore under any circumstances.
Actually, Dante and two groups of sanguinary guard have potential. That set up lets you beat face in a DC-esque way and still score.
Standard ol libby is good to put up shield of sanguinius on all those troops. However, this does not help in actual HTH. Sometimes, the 4++ power from divination is much better. But no gurantee of getting it.
Sadly, there are no perfect answers for BA in 6th.

Dante and groups of the guard with plasma or infernus pistols will take something out on turn one when they drop. Dante's no scatter ability has screwed many of my friends over, and the 2+ armor on a scoring unit is just sweet.
The libby can always take prescience if you don't like your Divination roll, its just as good if not better than some of the others on that list. I run him with Shield of Sang and Blood Lance . A moblie S10 Lance weapon is a threat not to be ignored. If we could only keep the Termie armor and the bike.
Sangunary Preist are a must take for our army though, the more saves the better. We don't have access to a lot of invul save, FnP is the best we have and because of that we must use it. I usually take 2; one being Brother Corbulo, he has 3+ 2+ and can take a beating. Throw him in with a squad of Sternguard for the extra lulz. You can give multiple squads FnP with careful placement of your troops, and can easily give the Preist cover with your vehicles.

I would say you definitely have to take at least one priest. Not only are they one of the fluffier units in the codex, the 6" bubble means you can give FNP/FC to multiple units. This is better than the chaplain, who only gives his buff to the unit he joins.

Rolling up the 4++ save power is like an "i win you lose" card against units like incubi.

I stand corrected. I've been on a vindicator binge lately.

Thanks for all the info so far guys.
I have a few games this weekend against a few different armies so I'll be trying Libbys, Reclusiarchs, Priests and Chaplains at all 3.
Not to ask for complete list tailoring advice but: due to Eldar's wards, is it best to NOT take a Libby and throw down Dante with a Reclusiarch? I mean, a Reclusiarch leading a squad of Sanguinary Guard with a Priest in between 2 groups of them sounds like a nightmare for an opponent to take down.

Remember that the FnP and FC doesn't require the Priest to be in the unit. Its units within 6" of him, so even if he's just nearby you will get the bonus.
So 2 squads, one with Chaplain and one with a Priest will both have FC/FnP and one will have rerolls.

While we're on the subject actually, while being fluffy, how competitive is an army with 3 squads of Sanguinary Guard as troops at1500 pts?
Give one squad the banner and a fist, so that makes them 240 (not much more expensive than a kitted out AM Squad)
The other squads get a fist as well, maybe melta-bombs.
Points wise they're about the same if not a little less than an AM squad.
I understand plasma will just shred them to bits, but if they can get in on a target and have some priests with them, they might be able to weather the storm, right?

Why not both? Only takes two elite slots for 3 of each.
