As with many of you I am sure, the storm talon is of desired taste. Fun to play, but not exactly the best looking model by any means.
I have been liking the modeling side of the hobby more and more lately, and this is my latest one so far.
Looking at the model more and more, the generic shape of the model looks more like a helicopter than an jet to me. So I decided to continue with that.
Still a work in progress, but far enough to show and get suggestions on finishing the model.
Here is the pictures:
Ohh yea... did I mention that it is lighted and the blades are powered?

Let me know, Always looking for suggestions. Still got another on sprues to build.

Looking for some advice on the front turret. I dont like the giant block concept that was originally designed for the model.
Any ideas?

Finished the landing gear, front turret and the stand to get it more in a forward helicopter 'stance'.
I did not like the original front turret system. It looks way too bulky and just a bit of an eyesore. I did what I could...
Stand trimmed and augmented to get the helicopter to lean forward a bit.
Here is the helicopter in 'air' and all together.
Again, still looking for suggestions for improvement of the next one that i will start in a week or so.
Thank for looking,
Waffles

That looks pretty cool, good work! Motorising the blades and the LED are great idea, but if you have an electrical understanding maybe you could get the LED to blink like aircraft do and if it would fit, conceal the wiring and battery in the model with the switch on the bottom?

The blinking is possible with a compassitor, but the battery is a bit difficult. There is no hatch systen nor cargo hold on the aircraft to hide wiring and batteries. So the concept is to hide the battery and swtch in the terrain and run the small wires up the flight stand.
Thabk you for the blinking light suggestion, I will do that on my next stormtalon.
Any more suggestions?

compassitor? an automatic compass?
Capacitor is the word you are looking for. there is a little more to it than that as well.

Sorry about that, on cell phone and must have tried autocorrect or something.
Yes, you are right, I would have to use a small breadboard with about a 4k resistor and a relay or two to get that double-blink that you commonly see on aircraft. I could do a diode/capacitor system to get a single blink one ever second or so, but would ultimately look more like a space marine leaving his turn-signal on ore than an aircraft signal light.
Ohh the possibilites and ohh so little room....

Hate to know the cost of a custom made chip...

Fortunately they now make LEDs with the circuit built into the light.

All you need is a simple series ckt to provide power.
A small watch battery should work. Put it in the cavity on the underside of the base, an on/off switch sticking through the base, and small wires running up the stand.

I love the idea, but I think the side engines would be better located toward the rear on the aircraft (alongside and slightly under the tail. Then extended the tail a little farther out. This would give it more of a helicoptor look and perhaps give a more streamlined look.

Love it. You could disguise the battery pack as incoming missiles.

I can see what I do with some greenstuff magic for the next one.
Thank you for the suggestion.
