I know this is a dumb question but I've skimmed around and not seen it. What do the bullets mean on the side. New bullet means theres been a post and spend casing means none since you last visited but what about the firing bullet and the smoking spent brass that is animated?

The animated versions represent what other forums would call a 'hot' thread, or one that regularly sees (or has seen) a lot of posts.

Nope, exploding grenade is a sticky post with unread posts. Like looking at the top of Nuts & Bolts, I have no unread posts in the stickies for Suggest Dakka Glossary Terms and the Funny Page Titles, but I do have unread posts for Suggest Army Rank Tracks here.
