As he question asks. I'm just looking for feedback to help make a tactical decision for my Savage Orc list.

I don't like polls. I'm wordy.

It depends on how much of your points are in animosity units and their tactical significance. If you have minimum core, I don't think it's a huge deal. But WHFB can be about positioning a lot and animosity can really screw that up if 2 brick walls appear in the middle of the map because 50 of your guys are fighting each other.

In my opinion, it's not important at all, mainly because your points are better spent elsewhere. Animosity is just another one of those things will happen and you should expect to happen, depending how many units you have but if you have 6 you can usually expect one fail each turn. The black orcs are expensive in retrospect, since you can get some of the cheapest big bosses in the game from Night Goblins. The black orc big boss is 90 points, and for the same price you can get a night goblin big boss and 20 night goblins, and use them as a bunker behind enemy lines. (if your giving him the BSB, and half the time you will be because your Black Orcs are so expensive). The savage orc death stars might need it, but the BO is usually a high priority target for the enemy and he is usually gone after unless he is well protected. Also it depends on how heavily you rely on magic, since no spells can be cast when you squabble. If you have 2 wizards, and combat units in your savage orc big un unit, with no quell animosity, then it could take a large portion of your game away for that turn.

Its far better to spend the points on more units to mitigate the chance that Animosity will screw your plans.

Sure, its nice to have a Blorc unit/boss around to quell it, but you are taking them for their combat power not that ability. If your Blorcs quell some animosity for you its just a bonus.

Considering the cost difference between Black Orc characters vs. regular Orc characters, especially if you are going to tweak the character out with gear (redundant with Black Orc standard gear access and “armed to da teef”), quell animosity may not be worth it. If you absolutely want to get units across the field fast though (in many cases you do), it may be worth it. I don't put them in every unit, but do it sometimes when I want to ensure they move every time.

Animosity is not nearly as punishing as it has been in past books, and if you still haven't read the new animosity rules you may want to glance back at them. (not a jab at you, I also didn't read the animosity chart too closely thinking it was the same as the old 6th ed). When your plan is usually to be within charge range in turn 3 at the latest, most of the results on the animosity chart involve charging the enemy. The only time you may want to keep animosity under control is when you have a lot of points dumped into a unit, such as a 500pt block of savage orcs.

I usually take lots of black orc heroes anyways when I run my list, so I usually end up with a buncha krumped heads regardless of the situation. I just like having some really good squad leader heroes.

In my opinion, the larger the unit, the greater the need for a Black Orc. Multiple small Orc units may not need to be quelled ( let 'em fight it out!) but if you have your big badass unit (like the 50-strong Savage Orcs you mantioned) then I would say that, yes, you need a Black Orc. Let sum ead'bashin' begin.

For orcs - not much as 5/6 times you will not mind a charge, as long as you have big combat orc units (are there any other types).
For gobbos it is awful, as invariably you will not want to charge.

That said for my next tourney Orc arm my savage orc and orc boy hordes will be led by black orc characters to bring absolute reliability to the units.

Which a lot of people do. The standard 40 block of SOBUs with full command is just short of it, and if you add the shaman with the shrunken head you're well past 600 (more if that shaman is your main lv4 caster).

A quick easy fix is making your bsb a black orc, equip the armour of silvered steel and put him on the corner of the unit.

And then wait for all the shooting and magic go straight at that unit, of course

totally depends on if you're trying to win or be competative.

I run a Black ORc BSB in my Savage boys with my lvl4 in the competative list - thats about it.

Sometimes I run a big block of Black Orcs, they don't need babysitting.

Everyone else suffers animosity. Without it, I lose games because of it and have at least 1-2 units suffer animosity rolls of "1" when I least need them to.

I can see a Black Orc Big Boss in a unit of Big 'Uns to keep them moving.
Problem is, when you fail Animosity, there's still a decent chance that the result will either be what you would have done anyway. If it's not, there's a 50-50 chance of you being worse off or better.
But then you toss in a 90pt Black Orc, and instead of what amounts to a wash, you get D6 S5 hits.

I think Animosity screwing you over versus getting hit by a Fanatic is about even, but then you have to pay the extra points for the Big Boss.
I don't think Quell Animosity is ever worth it on its own. If you've got another reason for having a Big Boss in the unit, maybe--maybe--upgrading him to a Black Orc is worthwhile.

That's why if I ever get to do the BO boss thing it's just an upgrade on the BSB.

In any case, not even having a BO boss in the unit will help you if a neighboring animosity-prone unit decides to pick a fight with them. Too often that's the case
