Hello everyone i am Commander Nightflier, Primarily a tau player, i do dabble in vanilla marines and a very small bit of Imperial guard, having about 3000 points total, i have never played a game more than 1500, and most of my experience comes in the form of 700-1000 points in fifth, and mostly the same in 6th, but have graduated to 1500 points, my signature move in the past has involved dropping a pair of battlesuits with Twin Linked fusion blasters (melta guns for those not savvy with tau lingo) and flamers next to my opponents most important unit(s), also a fan of upgrading the greater good (see what i did there) out of my command squad, it usually runs about 450 points, though i haven't tried it much in recent games, lovin flyers leading to most of my 6th edition games having vanilla marines with a storm talon as an ally or using my tau as the ally to the marines.

my playstyle with tau is aggressive usually running along the style of mont'ka, this is because most of my experience has been against Imperial Guard one of the few armies that can out gun the tau, leading me to employ unconventional tau tactics (such as using an assault, yes i said assault, to clean up a peculiarly determined squad of guard after a devastating bit of shooting from my battlesuits). I am also a proponent of the close range firefight for the tau.

im doin alright, my broadsides have a very good record against flyers, which is strange because i cant seem to kill tanks to save my life...
not to mention its easy to forget some of the new stuff

I'm afraid that my Tau knowledge is a little thin on the ground, but I can definately sympathise with forgetting things. I do it all of the time, and not just in casual gameplay, at tournaments too. Which is bad. Welcome!
