I have someone that says they have a 40k rule book they'll sell me, but I want to know what the newest edition is to ensure its the most current. Games Workshop doesnt say the edition, is it 6th??

Um...while this is a fairly obvious answer..

40k's current edition is 6th, the cover is a quite badass looking space marine of the Dark Angels chapter

No this was not a troll by any means, yes Ive seen the 6th edition being mentioned for army codexs but I have been out of the scene for years and years, so I wasnt sure how it went as far as main rules. Hope you enjoyed your +1 post count...

Yeah, it isn't actually that obvious by just looking at the books themselves (well, at least not the 40k one, I don't know what the fantasy one looked like). Nowhere in or on the book does it say "6th edition".

Your one-stop website for batreps, articles, and assorted goodies about the men of Folera: Foleran First Imperial Archives. Read Dakka's favorite narrative battle report series The Hand of the King. Also, check out my commission work, and my terrain.

Read "The Geomides Affair", now on sale! No bolter porn. Not another inquisitor story. A book written by a dakkanought for dakkanoughts!

Well, all you really have to do is look at GW's website and look at the 40k Rulebook and that will show you the cover.

Thats true I guess I could have asked him for a picture.

Is it safe to say (without being called a troll) that all army codexs are also "6th edition"?

There are FAQs for all of them, including obsolete ones. Some are more recent, but only Chaos and very recently DA are true 6th Ed codexes.

All codexs will work with 6th edition. However, there are only 2 codexes released in 6th edition so far (Dark Angels and Chaos Space Marines). Most of the codexs are 5th Edition, and a few are 4th (but still work fine)

Codices don't get updated at the same time as the rulebook. Each codex usually sees 2 editions before it gets updated.

Currently, only the Chaos and DA codices have been released while 6th edition has been out.

GKs, Necrons, and DE were released in late 5th edition and were clearly written with 6th in mind.

Other codices are older and were not written with 6th in mind, although they work just fine.

GW just puts out a FAQ every so often to hash out anything that can't be used or need to be updated to the new edition.

Yes, under the Gaming drop down menu at the very bottom. It says Errata and FAQ articles.
