A dark Angels Librarian with a power field genarator (grants it and all units within 3" a 4++ save) clocks in at 95 points

How effective would one of those attached to a Devastator Squad be?

You can get a 10 man Dev squad with 2 lascannons and 2 missiles with flakk for 230 points.

Can i get opinions please.

If you run a dev squad they will most likely be in some kind of terrain to get a cover anyway. In ruins thats a 4+. At that point you would be wasting your libby and his powers. Run him in a transport and get a save on that so your troops can get across the board.

Just my two cents.

I agree, it seems like a buttload of points for something that can be achieved from cover. However, it may be a viable tactic if you're on a very sparsely covered table, or you're playing against CSM with a helturkey or IG with a collossus.

Seems like the libby with div and 4++ is a auto-include for DA anyway, so you can change his location depending on the context.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Does it work while inside a venerable land raider?

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

It does, You can do some neat mech infantry with it. Take a Libby with the PFG and stick him with a CMD squad with the banner of retribution in a LRC, then have 2 squads of tacticals flank them. 20 MEQs with Salvo 2/4 bolters and 4++save on top of a 4++ LRC with 6 Salvo 2/4 bolters Now you just need something to deal with the opponents tanks

I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.

The same save as a Dev squad sitting in cover. Meh.

Now why has no one mentioned the "and enemy" part. That really screws up the idea of getting the libby in close and personal.

Also, you won't really need to worry too much about blast markers. Only the front 4/5 would need to be close enough to get the save, since they're the ones taking the hits anyway.

It would work well for a mechanized force. Keep everyone within three of the land raider that the librarian rides in. Since it is models in range rhinos would benefit greatly.

Rather put it on a techmarine than librarian unless i am using librarian to open a command squad.

Is it a cover or an invo?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hmm models not units so it's more helpful to expensive vehicles. IG are battle brothers.

How about inbetween 2 dreads set up as a firing base on your backfield

They say you never appreciate what you have until it is gone. I fear that isn't true for your mind.

how about a razorback in between two dreads and a bigger firing point... or 3 land raiders advancing up the field... or who knows....

(other hten Heldrake/IG) If you want to do the Dev squad, here is broken dev squad... techmarine with them in bolstered ruins... ok so now they have a 3+ cover save... next infravisor... or whatever it is called, now they have night vision, and finally, if you have 2 dev squads in one set of ruins or you take a second tech marine buy 1 darkshround that convers 1 model from each of the units, (put it out of los behind the ruins) and then they both have stealth bringing it to a whopping 405 points (depending on weapons) for 2 kitted out dev squads with 2+ cover saves and whichever one of them that you want can have night vision (just move the tech marine).

Worry about blasts. I'm going to drop that plasma on the cluster near the librarian, but you're going to have to take saves and pull guys from who's the closest to me. You're going to have to work to keep the power-field cluster the closest.
Cheap librarian is awesome, but I don't know if I'd bother with the power field. It isn't that much better than cover, and encourages bad habits (like clustering up models).
Does the field work in close combat? That would be a bummer to be passing out 4+ invuls; even guardsmen could hold out against marines.

it works in CC however you can be careful with positioning.
Also the idea is that if it's in a LR or something then it's not as much clustering and even if you are firing blast plasma, preds, dreadnoughts, and LRs don't really care.

Also when dealing with things that ignore cover(such as the helldrake) or when you simplly don't have access to cover. It is quite easy to put the front 3 to 4 people in the bubble spreadout while keeping the rest of the squad spreadout.

For devastators I'd prefer just a Techmarine with the Power Field generator instead. He's a bit cheaper and comes with the extra buff to cover. Use it as the centre point for the whole fire base (and the other plus side is it uses no slots!). The Power Field Librarian is something I'd definitely put in to use on a squad of Black Knights. Though this would be one of those cases where I'd gun for something other than Prescience as the psychic-power de jour (though I suppose he could buff other nearby squads or use it as a close-combat buff).

The Knights are things that will likely be getting hit with a lot of "ignores cover" weaponry and they cost quite a bit. That is where I'd prefer to have my Librarian. The backline is the ideal place to stick a Techmarine for support. No slots used, cheap and able to access the key equipment he needs. My Techmarine is finally getting dusted off after a long period of not getting used (not least of which being that he was armed illegally...).
