So, I don't really like the feel of kroot, but my friend just assaults into my FW face with space wolves and thunder wolves, any way I could have a wall unit without taking kroot?

Gun drones from vehicles work just fine. Or just try using your Firewarriors as bait units to isolate and kill his units.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Maybe a GD squadron, they only take up a FA slot, which tau don't need, and are ok on over watch.

Instead of walling off and hunkering down, try using mobility to your advantage. Put your guys near or in devilfishes and out manuver him. Thundercav die to massed pulse fire, don't waste time with anything else.

Devilfish and Piranhas make decent walls, especially when they have Flechette Dischargers.

Tau and Space Wolves since 5th Edition.

Kroot are pretty bad in 6th, even in assault, so I'm not even sure I could recommend taking Kroot in the first place. I would suggest instead just hunkering down and shooting at them. Spam Crisis Suits, Broadside Suits, Pirahnas/Tetras (if playing with Forge World) and go to town.

The only experience I've had with Thunderwolves was a 1750 game about 2 months ago. No vehicles or anything to shoot at so I just unloaded about 5 railguns into them, killed off about 3-4 of them thanks to instant death ignoring their 2 wounds. I lucked out and was able to get them to run off the board along with the Wolf Lord.

I'd bring small units of FW and spread your forces. Make them use their speed to the fullest. When they head towards one unit, move the rest away from the doomed unit and move the doomed unit forward. It will get them to stay on their course, if it works right it should give you just a bit more room to run.

And try to use gun drones as well to block them for at least one round. They have leadership 10, but aren't immune to pinning. Try hitting them with the drone carbines just to try and buy yourself more time.

With allies, you can get better troops for cheaper that do the same job. Ork boys are better shields, better in CC, have better armor standard and mob up!
Or take space marines and have some good all rounder units.

You could bring Chaos Space marines. Get cultist blobs, marines, or maybe a Helbrute or Maulerfiend to run interference.

Kroot aren't supposed to be good in assault. Their job is to be the cheapest bodies you can bring, stand in the path of something nasty, and die to give your important units another turn of shooting. Any damage they inflict in the assault phase is just a nice bonus (unless they somehow cause enough wounds to lose by a small margin and pass their leadership test, in which case you wish you could voluntarily decline to attack).

This is the real reason Kroot are less useful in 6th. You can get better meatshields from boyz or IG infantry platoons, so the only reason to take Kroot is if you've already used up your allies slot on something that doesn't provide good meatshields.

If you can afford Crisis suits I would recommend them, the Tau player in our group uses them with great success backing up his FW squads

You seem kind of confused.

Crisis suits and broadsides are the core of the Tau army, and fire warriors back them up as they provide a token scoring presence and some extra shooting. If you can't afford crisis suits and broadsides you shouldn't be playing Tau.

However, crisis suits have nothing to do with the role that kroot are designed to fill, so mentioning them here makes no sense.

Okay, thanks. I'm probably going to go out and buy some orkz, would I need the codex all that much for the allies?

I'm thinking a Mek Boy w/ 2 shoota squads. KFF

If you plan to use them, you need the codex.

I've had good success fielding two squads of 30 Shoota Boyz. They are cheap, tough, fearless, decent in assault, and surprisingly effective at shooting. They are a good substitute for Kroots.

Alright, I'll pick em up this weekend. 2 squads of 30 you say?!? How cheap are these orkz?

Bubble wrap your squads with Burna Boyz! Those things make me think twice about assaults, so probably would make your opponent think twice too.
