Does anyone know where I can get tank traps from i.e dragon's teeth and czech hedgehogs? Even the spikes pointing forward would be nice. I like G.W set but you don't seem to get a lot for your money.

Thanks

A very decent base for making tank traps is using lengths of sprue that you don't need from your model kits. You can make really quick and dirty ones, or with more work you can actually make some very good looking ones.

One of the projects on my "things to do eventually" list is to make some tank taps myself. The rows of concrete pyramids type (not sure what they are called) It seems that even someone with my skills should be able to do basic geometric shapes with a wire cutter and foam insulation. The battle damaged ones with chunks blown out and wire sticking out to look like rebar might be a little more advanced.

Somewhere in south-central England.

There is another type of tank trap which is made of three lengths of steel girder welded together at right angles.

This would be very easy to make using polystyrene sheet and girders, which can be bought from various websites. You could use I beams, H beams or angle irons.

A crazy simple way to make concrete dragons teeth is to get an ice cube tray and fill it with plaster.Just go to walmart or a dollar store and find a tray that has a shape similar to what you want. Let set and demold, boom instant dragons teeth. Then just rough them up a bit, smash one or two and paint with watered down black and other grimy colors.

Both Tamiya and Italeri make sets with the Czech hedgehogs in 1/35th scale and the Tamiya 1/48th set is a scaled down version of their larger set. Any of these will look better than a version made from leftovers or stock styrene and be quicker to make as well. The sets include other bits as well to make wooden obstacles.

There's also a middle ground for the Czech hedgehogs - the realistic DIY method. Instead of bodging together bits of sprue (which honestly doesn't look that bad, in my opinion, but neither does it look particularly like the real thing), you can buy styrene architectural shapes. Get some angle/corner strip and use thin sheet for the braces and end-caps. Add some rivets and/or weld beads with styrene or putty and, once painted up properly, they're indistinguishable from the kits.

The "plaster in an ice cube tray" method can make for awesome dragon's teeth, since you can tactically chip them while half-cured, but only if you can find a tray with the proper shape. All of the ones I've ever seen have a pronouncedly rectangular base, not a square one. They'd be easy to cut out of foam insulation board, though, and could still be chipped, if somewhat less realistically.

I used the ice cube tray method and plaster of paris to make some dragons teeth traps. I had tried first using a polyfilla type plaster, but even after several days they still hadn't set. The plaster of paris comes out of the tray rather shiny so i used an awl to gouge blast marks out of them and a wire brush to texture the surface. Super fast and easy once it's set.

As previously mentioned, the hard part is finding a good shaped tray to use.

Easiest and cheapest Dragons Teeth tank traps ever;

Styrofoam insulation, a knife, a bit of MDF or other stiff board as a base, flock, glue and paint.

Cut the styrofoam into a flat topped pyramid. Chip out a few pieces for damage. Glue it to a base, flock and paint.

These 6 took me about an hour, not including time for the glue and paint to dry;

For super easy and cheap tank traps, buy some corks from Micheal's or Ben Franklins, turn them upside down and prime/paint. They only cost a few bucks and look great. Plus the cork looks like rotten/deteriorated concrete when painted.

For dragon teeth, check out your local garden shop - mine sells potplant spacers (designed to go between a pot and its saucer/tray to let the pot drain properly) which come in rows of little pyramids (slightly rectangualr rather than perfectly square, but close enough) - they just need a little cleanup and texturing. Obviously the shape isn't important to gardeners, so different manufacturers will vary :( but worth a look.

For hedgehogs, I agree that plastruct (or similar) girder is the cheapest good quality option - after all, the real ones were made from welded girders.

Easy Czech Hedgehogs; either old sprue as suggested (they're not bad but they wouldn't be a focal point in the same way sprue as rubble filler isn't) or you can buy girders from plastruct for cheap (google their website + products) which also look very good specifically the I-beams,a lthough I suppose hollow square wouldn't be that bad (and if you were going to buy flat you may as well have used icy pole sticks). I've also seen bigger hedgehogs made with brass angles too which is also an option and is the same type used for the real deal (although this is the future, I do what I want).

I've bought stuff from these guys before. Good resin and well cast. They do the thing forgeworld always screws up: they actually get the bottom of their terrain level.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.
