What's up, guys? So I've recently painted up a 10-man squad of Lychguards, and now that I'm noticing my overall job, I'm really considering base coating them again with plain black spraypaint and starting over. Will this work well? Will it make the model look gloopy or deformed? And will the paint be covered successfully?

if your first layer was thin then the black spray should cover easily and not be gloopy, if however you used alot of paint on the first attempt or spray the spray paint on too think then the model could appear gloopy and loose detail. if in doubt strip the models, i am sure some on the US members of dakka can recommend some good products but "simple green" seems to work well from what I have heard.

You can repaint painted models, but you may lose detail. Depends how thick the paint job was. If you use watered down paint when painting, you can probably get one prime and repaint before you see 'drastic' detail loss.
Why not just touch up the jobs or is it a total re-do?
Simple green stripping isn't hard, but plastic usually doesn't strip all the way down like metals do.

Yeah, i really racked my brain to try and think of a way to simply touch it up, but it seems the damage is done in terms of how bad it looks. I have really clean lines and good coverage, i just really want a different paint scheme. So you guys think I have one last base coat before i start to see bad results?

I would say strip them first. It's not much work and then you are starting your new paint scheme with a clean slate.

Look at some tutorials on line or just search it up, it's basically dunk wait and scrub

if you have good coverage, as oppossed to globs of paint, you should be able to change your paint scheme with stripping or re-priming..
a pic might help people to see what you're working with...
all i can say, is i change my mind in the middle of a paintjob all the time, and just paint right over the previous color...
most sections of any mini i paint have at least 10 layers of paint, just from my normal technique...
if your paint is thin enough it will not obscure any detail...
