So I'm toying with a custom Elite squad for my Iron Hands codex, and I want them to have shotguns and a combat shield bit going on.

I'm messing with the idea for a "Bolter Shotgun" called the Tempest Bolter (based after the Tempest Bolts sometimes used in normal Bolters), however I'm unsure where to even begin on the statistics. I was going to just use normal Shotguns but my Emperor, they're so horrible to waste an Elite squad using.

This is my preliminary concept:

12" Range, 4 Strength, AP 6, Assault 4

I'd maybe just give them the option to fire their weapon as either an Astares Shotgun (R12" S4 AP - Assault 2) or as a regular Bolter. Assault 4 is a bit much, given that within 12" they are twice as effective at shooting as normal marines.

The only issue is that the Astartes Shotgun is directly worse than a Storm Bolter isn't it?

call them stats, not statistics.

ra12" S4 AP- Assault 3 would work - it'd be like a better scout shotgun.

I just want something a little better than the typical scout shotty but that could potentially be swapped for a Storm Bolter for equal or more points.

So yea the Assault 3 would work.

I said call them stats. It isn't right and wrong semantics, it's so you can be understood better.
