Subject: Bikes in Transports?

I've seen a few posts here and elsewhere that have Ork Bike units (Warboss on bike etc) in a Battlewagon.
Not sure how this would work, since the rulebook clearly states that only infantry can board a transport unless specified elsewhere (codex etc).
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I'm going to guess because the FAQ added Very Bulky to their special rules, which means they count as 3 in a transport. But I still don't think they can go in transports either way because they are not infantry.

there are exceptions though, like a dreadnought in a drop pod or stormraven, or even a thunderfire cannon in a DP, maybe its something like that... although i dont know of any ork vehicle that has special rules that would allow it.

I thought the same when I saw it.
I've heard of FW models having Very Bulky transports, but not seen it myself.
Some transports cannot even take Ogryn or Terminators.
Think of a squad of 4 bikes roaring out of a Land Raider!

Yeah... I'm kinda iffy on embarking them on a transport, I dont know the rules for that but I dont think it's legal.
However, another question I have is this: if it is illegal, could a squad of nob bikers still purchase a battlewagon as a dedicated transport, even if they can't embark in it?
I don't remember if that's legal or not.

Unless otherwise stated in a transports specific rules, only infantry can embark in vehicles.
The Very Bulky is for completness, and that GW may be adding transports that can carry other units in the future.
It also comes into play for Appoclypse with Super Heavy transports.

ya im pretty sure thats illegal although I know why someone would think they could put nob bikers in a battlewagon since nobs can take a battlewagon and bikes are just a piece of wargear that nobz can take

IIRC the Ork codex says you can't take a DT if you take Bikes or something.
But even then its not uncommon in codices for units to be able to purchase a DT they don't fit inside.

Yup, I think they are the only transport capable of carrying bikes.
Stormravens have the record though on most legal occupant types. They can carry infantry, jump infantry, and one dreadnought.

As opposed to infantry, jump infantry, and jetbikes for the NS. But I think the SR still wins on a tiebreaker because it gets to carry a second unit.

Until you get into Super-heavies in which case I think it goes to the Manta with a Transport capacity if 55 (infantry/drones) on the top level, and 145 on the lower (crisis/broadsides are 3 spaces, vehicles are 30).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Yeah, it can hold the 6 vehicles that the Manta actually comes with, plus room for some battlesuits too.
IIRC the Manta comes with 4 Devilfish and 2 Hammerheads, plus 6(?) battlesuits. Then there is the Fire Warriors in the passenger bay.

Unless bikes were allowed to disembark 12inches rather than 6, theres no point to it.
The only way i'd do it would be to get a 4th battlewagon for 20 boyz riding around. Turn 1, disembark bikes, embark boyz. If i cant do it turn one, fine, i'll camp out a turn then embark. Now i got 4 BW with 20 boyz, 2 trukks, and a small biker deathstar driving around.
But cant do that, unless the new ork codex rumored around lets ork bikes go in transports.

Gotta admit though, that would be hilarious...
A Bike Lord and Chaos bike squadron in a Chaos Stormeagle..., DS in flyer mode, then next turn get in hover mode, disembark and look at the face of your opponent as you give him the Knight Rider theme song...
