Hey guys.

Building my first army here and went with CSM as they had a new codex and I thought I'd enjoy painting them (I am!). Only played a few games so far and did a brief read of the rule book. My question is about what weapons can CSM Unit use and whether my assumptions are right. I have a 10 marine unit and I gave them CCW for an extra 20 points. If I understand correctly, that means that they can have a boltgun, a bolt pistol (which counts as CCW), and a CCW. Now, I'm not sur if I understand this correctly, the mini is fine in alternating between these as long as they are actually on the mini? So if I assemble the marine holding a boltgun, a pistol on the belt, and a knife blade glued to the front of the boltgun, is that a reasonable way of representing the use of all these weapons? The rule book isn't particularly clear on this.

I've also given them Mark of Khorne and gave them the Icon of Fury. IF I understand correctly, that will give them five effective attacks when charging? 1 attack with pistols when charging because they are an assault weapon, 1 innate attack, 1 for having two CCW, and 2 for charging from the mark? If I am misunderstanding this, then an explanation would be really appreciated. Thanks!

North of your position

Pistol attack is shooting, and counts as 1 CC weapon, so that gives you 1 attack. The extra CCW makes it 2 attacks, then 1 from charge, and then, if I am right, 1 from the mark, wich makes it... 4 attacks. Wich is rather deadly.

You would have your base 1 attack + 1 for having bolt pistol and ccw + Mark of Khorne gives you Rage/Counter Attack , which gives you +2 attacks on the charge rather than one This gives you a total of 4 attacks on the charge/3 when being charged ,an Aspiring Champion with this gear would have 5 on the charge/4 when being charged.

As for modeling, most people put the ccw on the marine's hip or backpack, but as long as it's on the model you're good.

CSM (especially Khornate CSM) need all the help they can get, so let me give you one small piece of advice: The Champion already has a CCW so you only need to spend 18 points to give the rest of them Close Combat weapons.

Thanks for all the help. There was something about the wording of assault weapons that made me think they get an extra shooting attack, when now I see clearly that they don't. And those extra two points were just what I was looking for!

I'd also like to point out that you can exchange your bolters for a CCW for no additional cost. With the MoK, this makes them basically berzerkers minus the furious charge for much cheaper, and they can still have the special and heavy weapons options. I haven't tested it out yet, but it's certainly something to consider.
