Hey All,
I'm currently working on trying to figure out how to make Chaos Terminators a little bit better looking. My Army is Word Bearers themed, and right now I'm getting a kit of the Deathwing in, to use the hoods and what not. The bigger problem is with the Chaos bodies. They just seem so bland, so I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions or tutorials on how to make some decent looking Chaos Terminators.

Word Bearers eh? Lots of impurity seals and large rolls of parchment, ala the newish Dark Apostle, spread all over the armour would probably suit Word Bearers Termies in making their amour less bland.

Yep, lots of toilet paper rolls for the WBs. Also, they seem to like torches, so maybe off the back instead of trophy racks? The WHFB flagellant back banners would probably work well, too. That set also has alot of books, scolls, bones and other bitz that would work very well.

Excellent ideas, so far gentleman.
Whee is the best place to get Purity seals, and what not? I looked for that specific bit, but wasn't really able to find them.
I'll look into the WHFB flagellant though, that seems like a great idea!

Buy several of the CSM Terminator General plastic coats as bits (expensive but good looking).

Also if expense isn't an issue, FW has some excellent looking packs of purity seals.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me. |

Purity Seals are one of the easiest things you can make out of GS... just suggesting it to save you money. Don't be intimidated by the prospect of sculpting!

As others have said, just make your own. You will be able to have a nice varity and make your models stand out compared to everyone else. Check this out, lots of good advice: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/07/how-and-why-you-should-make-purity.html?m=1
Also, this fellow made some phenomonal Word Bearers and all of his "purity seals" were made from GS and made to look like human skin (which goes along with their fluff): http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?344133-21st-Host-of-the-Word-Bearers-Legion

Mutation is the answer. Admittedly that's easier to do with arms than torsoes and legs. One mutated foot wouldn't be too hard though - shave off the 'shoe' and/or entire shin, and replace with something suitable from the bits box.

Static posing can make any model look bland or boring(yea I'm pointing at you space marines). Nothing says that you have to pose them just like you see on the box cover. A slight body twist with a head turn can give a cool effect like the termy is looking for his next victem. A weapon raised or extended can give a cool effect too.
After that, using the right model for the right base is key. Lava bases don't always look good with every model(if I see another khorne army on lava bases I'm gonna shoot somebody). Use the base to tell a theme of your army. Like what planet they are battleing on or what ship they took over. A combination of these two things can make or break a mini sometimes.
Green stuff is a great way to make any model stand out If you have the skills for it. Kitbashing is another great way.
Making an army your own is what it's about. Sometimes a paint job can work and others it's green stuffing most of the army.
Goodluck with your army and don't forget to post pictures.

Along with what the others have said, reliquaries, robes, and other churchy things would help. Also, another thing you could do is use the Grey Knight Terminator bodies, and use Chaos Knight shoulder pads as cowls.

Alrighty fellas, Here is what I'm doing so far.
Right now, I'm using the DWK Robed Bodies, with Chaos Terminator Heads. I'm going to purchase some of the flowing Purity seals. I'm not really much of a sculptor, so I'm going to leave that out.
I'll use the hooded heads for some Unit Champs, I think.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

one other option is to give one or another of them a double-headed chain axe. It might be helpful to take the neutral skull-in-halo from the CSM line marine sprue to use as the central part onto which to mount the two chain-axe heads. maybe the chaos line trooper icon bearer bit can be used as well? combine it with a defiler 8-pointed star, and then just glue a dark angels book into the middle of it? (or use any of the original chaos icons to go with that staff, and put a book in the middle of it.....)
The throne of judgement comes with banners tacked onto flaming poles. I always hated those things. I have 4 of those in metal if you want to use those (yours for the cost of an envelope and international mailing), but I figure it might be an idea to use those instead of the CSM pointy trophy racks, even if only on just one model.
Trick is CSM terminators already have SO so so so so much more charactar than the UM terminators, so it's hard to give them more...

Get a possessed box.
I have yet to field a single possessed on the field, but the whole box is empty.
Exemple : possessed head
You could also use some mix and match FW kits.
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/DEATHSHROUD_TERMINATORS.html
These would make fine chaos termi. I ordered a box to mix and match them with a regular box.
