In the field, I suspect it was rarely worn.
Certainly this guy at Marsa Matruk in 1942 seems dressed normally;
Though protective gloves were worn;
The Italians used 5 different models of flamethrower in WW2, so as to colour the normal would have been the Italian green as used on helmets in Europe. A kinda almost bottle green. However I have seen some in North Africa over painted in sand yellow.
