Subject: Tutorial: How to create different snow effects for your bases {link}
With a blizzard ripping it's way through the UK causing mild discomfort and upsetting travel plans for all I thought what better way to spend my hobby time than making more snow!
There are a few tutorials around that describe how to create basic snow effects, but i'd like to discuss how to create different snow effects such as melting snow, fresh snow etc and introduce a new method to create controlled snow bases.
Neat. I had also heard that baking soda will yellow over time.
I think an alternative that may work out better is Aluminum Oxide for sand blasting. It is pure white and can come VERY fine. I know harbor freight sells it in the states.
I hadn't heard that soda turns yellow over time
(sometimes it yellows if you are using cork for your base, or something else taints it).
Aluminium oxide sounds very interesting. Forgive my ignorance but is it harmful at all? I'd like to include this tip I the article if I may and I'd feel awful if I poisoned some kid out there who enjoyed licking bases.
Another alternative to soda would be woodland scenics snow. Comes in a huge tub and is fairly inexpensive considering how many miniatures you can base with it.
@ kal el; eye ball it. These recipes are only very loose ratios. Best advice I can give is that this technique works for me because I'm comfortable with the mixes now; get experimenting.

Looks good.
I think most of the guys who have bad experiences with this stuff have used baking powder rather than baking/bicarbonate soda couldnt say for certain though so take that with a pinch of salt.
