I recently got a set of the weapons thinking they look cool. I intended to put them on a black reach set I have lying round, but I wondered if there is a reason why they should go, ie, I think they look a bit chaos, I wanted to add them to my space wolves army as an old set of armour that is still kicking about the ranks. Would this work with all the vast fluff or are they only used for a certain army?

They're for the Horus Heresy era armies.

They are an old and rare make of armour. First/second founding chapters would probably have some. Outside of those, they'd probably have to pull some strings to get some.

For me they are the perfect stand in for my Adeptus Custodes terminators:

Even though they're intended for Forgeworld's Horus Heresy, you can use them whatever way you like for 40K or both.

So yeah, using the weapons on your AOBR termies would certainly make them unique and is fairly easy to justify in terms of fluff as well.

They are heresy era terminator models. You can use them for whatever you want, though as long as their armament is correct as they can be easily identified as terminators. I have a set I am building up to finally replace my old early chaos terminators on 25mm bases in my Khorne army. Liking them so much I am going to order a set to add to my Slaanesh army as well.

Whoah whoah whoah. No offense, but those are some expensive bits. I'd not waste them on the Black Reach set.

Why not save up and pick up the gorgeous FW Cataphracti armor to go with them?

To answer your question, it's totally within the realm of possibility that your Chapter has a few Cataphracti-pattern Terminator armors left in their armouries.

I've picked up a squad of Cataphracti myself for use as a set of veterans for my Deathwing. They'll represent ancient suits passed down since the Heresy. They'll be painted to match the chapter's schema and be mounted on resin sculpted bases so that they stand out. They are such gorgeous models I can't wait to see them painted as Deathwing.

They are pretty nice. As they are pre-heresy they work well for Chaos armies as well.
