Doesn't need to be gw or anything. Could be FoW or any historical stuff, just looking for a good tutorial on painting desert coloured fatigues. Had a good look around but couldn't really come up with any. Anyone able to help? Thanks

I thought that the first link was particularly amazing.

I have a 'holy trinity' of paints for tan / bone / fatigues etc.

VMA Hemp.
VMA Sand Yellow.
VMA Sand.

They work very well together,

Thanks guys. Winter dyne, if you've got a load of guardsmen to paint, is it the airbrush with 0 degrees hemp, 45 degrees sand yellow, 80-90 degrees sand? With a nice wash at the end?

Or if you're taking more time, for example, at the moment I'm thinking about only the 8 haqqislam models I have, would you still use these three colours (or mixes thereof) to layer up from a black or dark brown base? Something like H, H/SY, SY, SY/S, S?

Thanks again

Yep, works well for zenithal. Some sort of brown wash or glaze to knock it back to the general colour you want. The IG on my titan diorama use these 3, with a quick devlan mud wash/glaze to knock it back a bit.

Over black you can use thin layers by airbrush to keep the result quite dark, but the hemp actually covers pretty well.

No need for mixes, by hand the VMA paints layer on beautifully. Thin slightly and it's just about how many layers you put on rather than mixes. Hence the 'holy trinity' comment. The same goes for Codex / Fortress Greys and white, or Shadow Grey / Spacewolf Grey / White. That sort of thing.

Thanks winter. One more quick question on trinities while you're here. Currently for my black space marines I'm basing black then going with one zenithal layer of German grey which is working quite well. But where in the VMA range would you go for the next tone lighter from German grey, in your experience?

Light grey, or barley grey maybe? Just if you've worked off German grey in the past. I know some of the greys can come out quite blue (e.g. Shadow grey)

Thanks again, much appreciated.
