Subject: Question about getting started with Infinity
Hi everybody!
Me and my friend have just had our eyes opened, we have tried a bit of 40k(not much) and thought it was OK, and liked the story's etc, but then last week we found out about infinity! We decided just by watching the miniatures and reading the general description for the armies to start with infinity and forget all about 40k...
Now since we both know a bit about 40k we found one thing in particular confusing about infinity, and we hope you guys perhaps could explain it.
In 40k you have your army specific rule books called codex that actually describes a specific's army special abilities and rules.
Now, is there anything similar for infinity? (Since we seem to be unable to locate that on the infinity website) Because right now the only thing we know about the difference in the armies is about the story and their looks.
So is there any specific rules and abilities for each army? And where do we find it?
Thanks!
New to 40k ^^

Unlike 40k and even War/Hordes there is no codex book to detail special abilites specifically on a per faction basis. That being said there are 'abilities' or gear that a limited number of models have access too. For example Impersonator, currently only Haqqislam and Combined Army have it, and only on a VERY limited number of modesl (2 in Haqq I think and 1 in Combined Army). 98% of all abilites and gear is universal between all factions. Some factions have more widespread use of that gear or have the ability on a specific troop type vs another (such as Light Infantry vs. Heavy Infantry as an example). The rule books when released have new units for all factions, and all rules and army lists are freely available for download on the infinity website. The play is incredibly balanced between them. The play styles will very slightly between them all. Proxy a few small games to get a feel for it and then choose what best suits you is the really the way to go. There is no 'win' button army, although just about any faction and its idiosyncracies are going to be challenging to play against the first time or two.
The first time you face off against TO camo, its going to hurt
the first time you face off against ODD, its going to hurt
the first time you encounter AD:Combat Jump its going to hurt
the first time you encounter Impersonators its going to hurt
etc etc etc
and in some cases its going to hurt each time, as they all bring their own advantage to the table, it really comes down to how well you can handle the outcome of those advantages and make use of your own.
Good luck

The game's rules are available free on the Infinity website. These will contain all the rules for each model and faction. They also have hard copy versions of the rules which also contain more background material etc available for sale.
First all rules and army list, can be found online for free on Corvus Belli Infinity site, on the download page. There are 3 rule download you need and 3 army list download, note the 3rd army list is missing some units, but WILL be added when the models released and maybe sooner. Infinity Pool free online army builder has every unit profile.
There are no army books for Infinity, when a new book (3 total so far) is released all faction get new stuff in the book. So everybody get new toy the same time. As for play style, each faction can play any style, they just have there own twist on it. Pick the faction who's fluff and models you like the best, then if you need help with a play style let us know.
Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

My favorite and most tempting things about this game are the rules, the fact you can get them for free and the lack of specific army books, while on the web site's forum there is plenty of fan fluff as well as that made by the official guys. A lot of time was spent thinking up this stuff, and it shows brilliant.

Oh, you lucky sod I live in a village close to Eslöv, and I play Infinity in Lund, but the Infinity crowd seems to be much more alive in Malmö (or at least moreso than in Lund).
