Hi guys, I'm interested in Super Dungen Explore and was hoping you could help me out.

A very good friend's birthday is coming up and I'm sure she would melt by just looking at the super cute chibi minis. But I'm worried that it might be to complicated for her to really get into it. Can you tell me about your experience with the game and how it compares to other Dungeon Board Games like Descent?

Hel would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard good reviews and it sounds relatively 'light' as compared to Descent, but I haven't played either of them, so....

Keep in mind the 'hook' is that it's a board game simulation of a console dungeon-crawl game, so it's meant to be somewhat fast-paced and lighter than a complex simulation.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

THS IS NOT A BOARD GAME, well atleast not a game you can just open the box read the rules and get playing. Every single model need clean up of mold lines and must be glue togather. Then you can paint them if you like, they look great painted. Now as for the game play, once you get a game or 2 of the 2 tile game, mostly becouse the rule book isn't the best. The game is really fun and funny, plus the combos both side can pull of are sick.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

No longer true. The 2nd Edition comes with pre-assembled miniatures. If you're buying it as a board gamer you're probably not going to clean the mould lines anyway.

...I still don't understand how folks manage to not do that, and still play with models without working themselves into an aneurysm

Which is the second edition? Is there anything written on the box, or is it a specific print run from a certain date onwards? ...or?

It's anything this being printed now. I don't know if there's anything on the box, but everything that is the 2nd printing or forward is pre assembled.

My friend has this and the expansion set and I have to admit that I really enjoy playing this game. We usually play with a group of 3-6 and have a blast. Some of the rules are a little silly/not easy to figure out but after you play a few games it is really simple. I would recommend it to everyone as it can be a very enjoyable time depending on who is being the dungeon master. We switch places between around 3 of us and depending on who it is really makes the game either fun or a real challenge.

Basically the first run sold out completely a while before another was done so if you order from a high-volume online retailer you're 100% guaranteed to get preassembled models, AFAIK.
(Not neccessarily a good thing - assembly is often crap on such things and taking them apart to fix gaping holes actually takes a lot more time than if you'd just gotten a bag o' bitz...)

I got mine around a year ago, which was apparently not the first run. But nothing said second edition that I noticed. The assembly has been the main reason I still haven't cracked it open.

Yeah, the last thing you want to do after spending 2 hours screaming and swearing at the SDE minis is actually play SDE. And that's a shame, as the game itself is a lot of fun.

If the current edition (or print run, to be more accurate) really does contain pre-built minis, then the single greatest hurdle to enjoying SDE (ie. putting that fething dragon together) no longer exists.

...I take it you have little experience with screaming and swearing at, oh I dunno, a first edition Descent dragon, trying to fix the fething incompetent pre-assembly then? (So help me go, 3-4 mm gaps between body and wibg unit...). Something to be said for either, I guess...
