Subject: Using Abbadon ?

There is a thread just there telling us how Abbadon is a killer that can handle everyhting short of a tank batallion of GK Land Raiders.
I am currently planning on using him in a 2k game, and the question is.... how ?
Option 1 - Deep striked with a tactical team of terminators
I think 5-8 tactical termis (i.e. combi melta / plasma + Reaper autocannon, mix of PW + 1 CF)
+ : effective terminator unit
- : has absolutely no synergy with Abbadon whatsoever. The terminators will keep on shooting whils Abbadon will jump on the first CC target he finds.
Option 2 - Deep striked with CC terminators
I was thinking 5-8 DLC terminators, 1 with HF+ CF. MoK or MoT
+ : CC deathstar. Nothing short of a bloodthirster would engage this on its own will.
- : you could dance around this unit the whole game, and never be threatened, except by Abby's bolter. :/
Option 3 - In a LR, with CC terminators
4 MoK or MoT terminators, DLC (?)
+ : more reliable way to get around. The LR can resume shooting things after delivering the guys. Dirge casters means no snap shot during the charge.
- : squad limited to 4 guys to fit in the LR. Cost of the LR. If the LR gets blown up, same problem as option 2.
Option 4 - in a LR, with a Chosen squad.
I was thinking 8 chosens, with MoK, 2 plasma guns (meltas?).
+ : Same + as option 3. Add the fact that even on foot, the squad has some firepower. Nades for the charge. Abby makes that a scoring unit.
- : less resilience than the above options. Less punch than dedicated CC units.
Have you other loadouts you have tested and that worked ?
How are you using Abbadon ?
Cheers for your comments / advice !

walking with 10 MoN chosen with 5 plasma gun.
5 PE plasma guns with 24" range can be hard to ignore. T5 means it is hard to shoot to bits, especilly with abby tanking a bit in the front. Assault is really a non starter.

What I dislike in this option is the fact that you are using Abby as a very expansive shield. Typhus would be better suited for that ?

I've used him with my PMs to good effect.
My standard list has 40 PMs. This is what it looks like.
PMs are really, really good at mid-board control. Their just so durable its hard to dislodge them with shooting.
Helldrakes are really good at causing havoc on enemy lines, so you can't just stand back and shoot easily unless you have solutions for the helldrakes.
However, my list has one big weakness -- fast moving assault deathstars. This can be in the form of Ghaz or Beast packs. Anything that just shoves itself down my throat on turn 2 has been a big problem.
This past weekend brought Abbadon in some friendly games. He proceeded to completely wreck face! I had a squad of Twolves rush in and assault one PM squad in a game. Abbadon assaulted the Twolves -- killing the lord in a challange then beating the crap out of the remaining wolves. Some grey hunters dropped near him, and he assaulted killing 8 grey hunters by himself!! I was blown away with how excellent he was at wrecking face.
In another game he wrecked a BA dread before it attacked, then proceeded to munch through two squads of BA jump marines. Anything he landed near my PMs got chewed up and spat out.
That's what caused me to make that post. I did some mathammer and found Abbadon really is that much of a beast.
Using him as a "Beware of Abbadon" sign worked out really well. It kept the neighbors from getting on my PM's lawn, which let me hold objectives uncontested.
If I were to shove Abbadon down someones throat, I would bring 35 cultists. Stick Abbadon tword the front of the group and rush em forward. Thats 35 four point ablative wounds to get Abbadon there.

if you just wanted a shield and fearless then you could have a chaos lord with termite armor.
Abby makes the chosen troops
Abby gives PE
Abby makes assaulting the chosen suicide
Abby gives you the best warlord trait. Typhus gives you the worst trait.
Abby's trait is a huge force multiplier. 12 in bubble.

Unless you aren't facing marines....
I usually run abby on a LR with some termies or chosens, so option 3 or 4 with me, LR isn't as easy to get blown with the new edition. Even thought they added the hullpoints I've seen a decrease on anti-tank (meltas) for S7 (plasmas & autocannons), which do nothing to the LR.
Thinking on my own 2000 list, i've only got a squad on marines with 2 meltas and my vindi to open a LR.

Plus one to this people!
Rerolling 1s to hit and wound is a huge advantage when facing MEQ.
First it means that your chances death from overheated PG go from 1/18 to 1/108. It also means that means that your hitting 77.77% of the time and wounding 97.22% of the time! The overall 'per wound' delivered by a PG shot jumps from 55.6% to 76%!
Even bolters get significantly better! Look at these odds of killing a MEQ. The middle value would be from a divination libby.
Bolter shot vs MEQ.................11.1%
Twin Linked vs MEQ...............14.8%
Preferred Enemy vs MEQ........15.1%
 ... ... ...
So think of Abbadon as giving every CSM squad within 12" a divination libby. Now make the effect better. That's what Abbadon does.
(Note, in assault the divination buff is better -- but as we established earlier, who in their right mind will get in assault range of grumpy old'man Abby)
As Lord Yayula, its only good against marines. This means its effective against "Most of the game"

So, the right option could be with some havocs, giving the choice of being shot to death or in CC with Abby ?
Irony appart, that means shooty MoN Chosen would be a better squad - to force a choice between shoot or CC ?

I have found him best used as a deturrent for assault and as a buff for shooting.
You might find a different way to use him.

I'm hoping to use him in a 20man blob of Cultists walking up the board with 2x flamers. We'll see how it goes.

OP, what weapons are you planning on putting on your termies in options 1-3? in option 2 are you putting 2 cc weapons on them or have combi-bolters with PF/power axe? The weapons you would put on them matters.

Option 1 would be mainly power mauls and 1 CF. Maybe an axe or 2
Option 2 and 3 would be dual lightning claws. I find those the best CC punch available, for a very cheap cost.
