I'm moving onto the highlights of the black portions of these bikes, but I'm not sure which colour to use.
I tried out this light blue, but I'm not sure if it looks that good (it's only roughly applied for now).
I'm sure some people here know better than I, which colour would look good in this situation. Grey perhaps?

Its a bit too Tron for me. Maybe try with a dark grey with some spot highlights of a lighter grey?

You might knock it back some with a darker blue. Also when highlighting sometimes less is more, you might try just hitting certain points and not connecting all the lines together.

Here's another one with grey. Again, roughly applied for now.

I think that looks much better. Now hit the corners and some portions in the middle of plates with a lighter grey to really make it pop.

It's looking pretty good. Try to use the side of your brush as much as possible and keep your paints pretty thin. Doing this will make it much easier to keep those highlights tidy.

That is what I did, but my detail brush has seen better days. I have another on the way.

I've had good success with Dark Reaper and Thunderhawk Blue for brighter highlights.
I'm doing Raven Guard though, so try to achieve a more blu black, does give a more muted overall effect though.

That looks good. Nice work. Maybe go back in with black to tidy the lines a bit with your new brush?

Definitely some neatening of the lines will be done.
Here it is right now with a base.

I think your highlights are just too hard. The blue could have worked fine, the problem was there's no transition between the black and the lighter coloured blue or grey.
Have a look at how this dude did his black...
http://corvusminiatures.blogspot.com/2012/09/last-death-company-wip-shots.html
He has a detailed instructional on how he did it (the colours look a bit extreme in the video, but you get the idea on how you should layer the highlights).

I think a colour like Shadow Grey (or I suppose Fenris Grey in the new colours) works really well for this sort of thing. Using pure grey to highlight can make the model look a bit dull, while using pure blue looks a little bit too strange and otherworldly to me (maybe good for Elves or something, not so much for Space Marines). The blueish grey of Shadow Grey, though, I think looks like a nice middle ground. Again though, you might want to gradually blend up to Shadow Grey using mixes with black first rather than just plonking pure Shadow Grey on as a highlight.

Looking sick mate, if you tip.. glase over the highlights with some black wash.
1. get wash
2. get paper towel
3. put paint brush in wash
4. wipe abit off the brush onto the towel
5. glaze over highlights
this will pull it all togeather with the black abit more will make it look more sexy not to say it doesnt atm tho
pm me if you need more halp

Great that the topic of painting Ravenwing was brought up!
I'm just about to paint mine, and I've been going mad trying to figure out how to highlight the black color scheme without screwing the whole model up too much!
The regular DA army can be highlighted with Warpstone Glow and the Deathwing can be shaded with Seraphim... but for the Ravenwing??
Its really quite intimidating to even start for me!

All you need is a wash/glaze to blend those highlights and you'll be set.
