The banner of devastation provides an upgrade for bolters to salvo 2/4.

My question is: What kind of bolters can be upgraded in this way?
Normal bolters yes, but how about stormbolters, hurricane bolters, bolters mounted on bikes?

Hurricane Bolters and bike bolter I would say yes (sadly) but no to Storm Bolters.

Because the rules for a Hurricane Bolter state that it is 3 TL Bolters firing as one.

I say, any weapon that requires you to look at the Boltgun stat-line.

Boltgun, twin-linked Boltgun, any Combi-weapon, Hurricane Bolter and Master-crafted versions of the above.

I ran into that yesterday, via Hurricane Bolters on a DA LR. What a crock, hiding the banner inside a vehicle like that. Things like this make me think that GW doesn't do any playtesting, they just jot down any old thing that comes into their heads.

IMHO the banner needs to be where people can see it, and the effect should only extend from the banner pole itself.

Of course, my Basilisks still pounded the bejeezus out of him, because he was so tied to staying close to the banner so he could get those extra shots. LOL - 5 bikes smashed in one shooting phase.

So it's a crock that wasn't play tested, but it has glaring weaknesses? Cool story...

This is the way it has been played at my flgc.

The Standard of Devastation says that all boltguns within 6" will be salvo 2/4.

Under the header "BOLTGUNS" in the BGB (p.56), all bolter weapons are included, including storm bolters and heavy bolters.

So either they meant boltguns as:

1) All weapons under the BOLTGUNS header of the BGB.

2) "Lowercase" boltguns, hurricane bolters, and combi-weapons


To me it seems like the RAW could be either 1 or 2.

The RAI is probably 2 though.
