I am a Dark Angels player. I paint my dark angels in appropriate color scheme. I also play orks but that's not really the point here.

But i would like to use some other armies from time to time. So i will paint some other chapters in another appropriate color scheme.

But doing so with tanks (mostly Land Raiders but others come to mind) wold be pretty expensive. Double space marines trooper... ok, double tanks...i have to win on lottery.

I was searching for neutral color to use for my tanks. But then i got this idea that my tanks could be rent-a-tank. Sort of half-joke. Non descript color scheme (meaning it doesn't belong to specific existent chapter) with some commercial logos on it.

What i am looking for is color scheme for this idea. It has to be different than existing chapters. Another option is bone white of dark angels (white is color of taxi in some countries), then i would have magnetized doors, one with DA symbols, other with taxi sign on it (mostly for Land raiders), or Hallo, Xplosion in the style for Hallo pizza for other tanks.

Am i stretching this to much?

The gimmick will grow stale after a while. The concept of Space Marines, especially the Dark Angels who have their own forge, renting out advertising space for jokes seems too silly even for the 40k universe.

If you want a 'neutral' vehicle, paint it up like the Mechanicus or Inquisition or some other organization that would interact with Space Marine vehicles without being affiliated with one specifically.

If you really want to have a stale joke in there still, you can paint yellow-white "hazard" stripes and checkerboards to look almost like a taxi on a Mechanicus tank.

The other thing you can do is magnetize your doors and iconography, that way you can swap chapter symbols back and forth ... assuming you have a neutral colored tank.

A very clean 'metallic/black' tank with magnetic doors is your best bet IMHO.

You can then just get FW/3rd party doors and paint up a little dude to poke out the top of the tank and then swap those out. You can then have the themes you want for appearance reasons.

There is no reason your tanks have to be absurd bright colors, I can see dark tanks being very valid even if you are doing it for 'swapping' reasons.

Considering how often stale jokes get thrown around this forum (Crassus vehicle comes to mind) I wouldn't worry about the critics.

Well, this is what we did for our Adepticon army 2 years ago:

I had a similar idea for Vanguard Veterans and Devastators. These are units that a great number of SM armies require and are fairly expensive units to keep re-buying, so an idea I had was painting them as Mentor Legion.

Mentors are always hanging out with other chapters, bolstering weak points in various marine armies.
That could be fairly money-saving.

While you don't see it in the more recent fluff, SM used to paint their armor and tanks in camouflage for the planets they were fighting on. If you do doors with chapter insignia, you would be able to use the same models for various codexes.

I paint my scouts in camo, without unit/chapter markings. This way I can use them for my main Ultramarine force or my smaller Blood Angels contingent.

You could also leave on tank painted primer grey, and give it a back story explaining it. Rolling off the line of a forge world under attack into the frey, there was no time to paint it properly. It drove to victory that day. Every time paint was applied, the crew met a gruesome end, but the blank tank was salvageable, and could be returned to the fight. It's crew these days have learned to respect it's unpainted heritage, and ride to victory without their chapter colors.

I second the camo scheme idea, but then I like camouflague

Although not really right for a marine chapter, look at pictures of trains. The private rental (and even the big companies) basically just paint over names and numbers and replace with their own, instead of repainting the whole train.

Enterprise rent-a-raven wins. That with magnetic doors is all you need.

If you go back to Rogue Trader days, most vehicles were painted in "Administratum Grey" with no chapter insignia, just Imperial Insignias.

Jet black tanks with giant numbers on them with ad mech drivers. Just say they are test tanks on loan from the ad mech for combat testing.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing with all my tanks. Make the doors magnetic and paint them a neutral color that I can use in both armies I play and swap the doors out per army. Sure its not as nice as getting 5 Rhinos and 2 LR for my Space Wolves and then doing it again for my Grey Knights, but its cost effective.

Go for it!

thanks, i will go with some neutral colour with magnetic parts.
Signs can always be added later.

Doors, maybe some reinforced armour, basically any decent size flat surface.

I will risk the uniform look of whole army for the chance at further versatility and the price of couple of GW marine vehicles

I might even invent Dark Angels successor chapter, acting like allies but actually looking for ''Fallen''. Pretty lame fluff but still
