Last friday, I was playing at my FLGS and a guy brought 2 captains in terminator armor with storm shields and thunder hammers. The rest of his army was no problem, but how do I kill these things? I think I put about 25 Ap 1/2 shots out there and they only lost 1 wound (to a stray missile pod) Should I add a farseer with mindwar or would it be better to just keep popping railguns into these things waiting for instant death? This is really scaring me, because next game he said he was bringing his commanders bodyguards into the fight!

Here was what I had, the rest of his army shouldn't be a problem

Crisis helios w/ bodyguard +2 shield drones
MP Flamer platoon w/ 1 shield each
2 counts of 6 FW w/ markerlight
Hammerhead w/ seeker missile
Devilfish with seeker missile
3 bikes w/ warlock

What should I add to kill his terminators? I can switch from tau main to tau allies if I need something.

From an ork player I deal with termies of all sorts not through ap1 or ap2 but through mass of fire. Throw enough shots at em so they are bound to roll a bunch of ones.

Basically... you need more guns.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Good ol Fire warriors should be enough to get it done.. marker light them, wounding on threes, and rapid fire would make them throw a lot of saves

Fire Dragons would murder this. Like, hardcore murder.

Be glad he didn't take Lysander - that guy can basically weather an entire army's firepower due to 2+/3++, 4w, and EW.

I don't think fire dragons would work against this, considering still 3+ and no instant death.

So, should I bring dire avengers to deal with them?

Instead of shooting them wih high ap weaponry, try quantity of low str/ap shots. I have found TH/SS termies die to frag missiles if you fire enough at them, bolters or stormbolters will do the trick also.

Wouldn't the railgun be the best way to kill them? average of 3 hits before instant death.

How many railguns can you cram into a list?

Guided scatterlaser warwalker squadrons makes every infantry squad a sad panda. If the Eldar aren't allies, bring 6 or 9 war walkers for extra lulz; they are cheap enough to do that.

Why would you waste time with allies when you own Troops have the weight of fire you need? Lose the gimmicks and go with the Fire Caste.

I was only using the bolter example because I do not play tau and have no clue what their basic infantry gun is. I've never even seen tau once in my local meta, other than in the stores display case.

Railguns. Not the greatest but they instant death and they reduce him down to a 3+ save.

3 TL BS3 Railguns (a squad of Broadsides) should have a pretty good chance of killing one TH/SS Captain per turn.

Fire warriors have a 30" rapid fire S5 basic weapon that will put paid to these fellows.

No standard space marine captain is T5. A few special ones have EW, but that's rare too.
