I need tons of autocannons and I'd rather not be buying seperate bits

Is it possible to make three from one box?

Depends on which box you buy, the Heavy weapon team has 1 of each heavy weapon, the Heavy Weapons Squad have 3 of each heavy weapon. So basically no, you have to buy the separate bits.

However, autocannons kinda suck to be honest. They are out performed by lascannons in all ways except to pen AV 10.

So are you telling me this:

Comes with three of each weapon? That is what I was asking about, btw

You can extend the barrels on Heavy Bolters to convert them to Autocannons. Which will make the boxes go further in terms of getting the most Autocannons for your money.

Yeah it comes with 3 of each. I wasn't sure which box you where talking about. They used to make a box that had one heavy weapon team, but I guess they stopped making those. Sorry about that I haven't had to buy Heavy weapons in a long time.

But with all the bits, is it possible to make more than 3 teams?

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive.
Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.

Autocannons will always be better than lascannons for me. They're cheap as dirt, and you get sufficient bang for your buck. So instead of having expensive heavy weapons that can get wiped off the board easily, I'd rather have 3 autocannons that can scare a good many things. You save 30 points, and those 30 pts can go towards giving your troops 3 melta guns, or go towards getting a manticore, or whatever else you would want.

So basically instead of having a high priority target on the field that has piss poor LD and is squishy as all hell, I'd rather make them a nuisance, and save my points in order to better outfit other parts of my army, or put them towards something big and killy, like a leman russ.

Get more 60mm bases, and a few standing guardsmen, and you could easily make 6-12 teams depending on which weapons you felt like building.

My limiting factor was always bases and bodies, never weapons.

Find a cheap bitz site to get bases, then buy a couple of boxes of guardsmen to use as loaders, and have the crouching dude as your gunner.

You can also do clever things like having guys carrying guns, bracing them on fences/sandbags, or even firing from the hip to get around the lack of tripods/stands that you'll inevitably run into.

Yes, In a single box, you can make an autocannon/heavy bolter, lascannon, and mortar. You're going to run into an issue in that you only get two crouched guardsmen, and only one set of hands held forward to hold the gun. I've been trying to think up a way of putting them on spider like mechanical bodies with a enginseer nearby as scenery (or not), that way I could put everything on a spider body, and not have to use most of the kit but still get all the guns out of it. Never found a good design though.

Edit - whoops, you need bases too, only get one

Autocannons IIRC are superier than lascannons vs AV 10, AV 11 and marines in 4+ cover.

I got a HWT box a couple of weeks ago. Made three Autocannon teams straight off. With very little conversion effort I made an extra Lascannon team and could probably have made another 1-2 with only a little more work, but didn't because I wanted to use the other two Lascannons as part of my Vendetta conversion.

If you want six HWTs from a single box, you need to make sure you only use the kneeling legs for guardsman actually shooting the gun. Use normal standing legs for the spotter. This also helps for line-of-sight over an Aegis, though it does make it slightly harder to get them in cover. You get two different stand types in the box, but the Autocannon and Lascannons share the same one, so a bit of conversion work is required here. If you want extra Mortar or Missile Launcher teams in instead of Autocannons or Lascannons, this isn't a problem. You need some some extra 60mm bases, but since my other army is Daemons I had plenty of these going spare. Its trivial to make them from plasticard if you don't want to buy extras though. The only other extra bit you need are arms to hold the gun, but I was able to source/build these from my bits box without too much trouble. You also only get three of the armour plates for the firer to hide behind, but these aren't really necessary, so I just didn't bother for my Lascannon.

It answers the question right on the GW page you linked:

"It is possible to give all teams the same heavy weapons to build a support squad."
