New to 8th, so pretty much testing the ground again since i havent played much.
Wanted a different style army and something with a heavy theme, so decided a tree spirit type army could be fun.

Now, im new to 8th and never in my life have i even looked at the WE armies book, so thats where the issues come in.

How does the tree spirit list really work?

I grasp that a TMA is a pretty solid start, but when it comes to dryads, kin etc it all goes out the window.
All in all, im looking at putting a small 2,000 point army together with a solid theme.
However, while wanting a fun army, i also want one that has some ability to play, rather than get tabled every game lol.

So, if possible, could someone give me a quick rundown on the units and uses please and if someone has the time, just a very rough 2k list please?

Were you looking for a 100% Tree Spirit list? Characters and everything? And not even Eagles or anything? Don't think a BSB can be taken in a Tree-exclusive list, but not sure.

Well, regardless, it'd be a pretty simple list. I don't have AB or the WE book on me atm so I don't know specifics, but it'd pretty much be like this:

Treeman Ancient
Branchwraith
Dryads (500+ pts worth)
Treekin (500+ pts worth probably)
Treeman (I think can only take 1 if under 2000 pts)

You could mix in a Spellweaver, Noble BSB, Eagles, and maybe a unit or 2 of some shooty elves.

Ok, so I came up w/ this. Not sure how viable it is, but at 2k pts, it should do fairly well. Lacks heavy magic, but at 2k pts, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Keep in mind it's basically 100% Skirmishers...

Lord
- Treeman Ancient
Murder of Spites, Lamentation of Despairs

Hero
- Branchwraith
Level 1, Cluster of Radiants

Core
- Dryads x18
Nymph

- Dryads x17
Nymph

- Dryads x17
Nymph

Special
- Tree Kin x8
Elder

Rare
- Treeman x1

Should be 2000 pts exact.

Again, I don't know how good that'd be (my main WE opponent plays a pretty balanced list of trees, magic, shooting, and cavalry. And runs circles around everyone, it's sickening.) But if you're simply looking for what a general tree-only list would look like, it'd look like that - A couple Treemen, a few branchwraiths (if you want more magic), 50-odd Dryads, a dozen Tree Kin (to be safe/flexible).

His list is very solid. I would take the named Branchwraith though. She helps allot. Make sure you play on a forest board and abuse the hell out of the trees. Moonstone of the hidden ways your treekin to their flank then use your 6 spell to get them in close combat turn 1, nothing is better than that. Your only way to win is to abuse rules and play smart.

Never attack head on, rear and flank charges only. ANY magical attack will wreck your army, so if you run into some take it out first, and target priority anything with the Eternal flame banner with your dryads. Never put your multi-wound guys by anything that so much as carries a lighter because they will die.

You will have minimal to no magic and ward saves that disappear to spells. Magic will kill you.

Your army will not be that fast and have no shooting.

Your only ranked unit will be the treekin with a maximum unit size of 12 IIRC.

If you want to be a Forest Spirit army that would allow a few elf spellcasters and wildriders. This would make your army much better. . . but does not sound like your original idea.

Rather with Bastian here- Glamourweave kindred makes Spellweavers Forest Spirits (though they have to be bought mounts), while Wild Rider kindred does the same for nobles/highborn. And some wild riders would definitely add a speed boost to your army.

[Edit: found missing pages from army book!]Drycha isn't cheap but does come with a whole bunch of bonuses- extra dispel dice, some magic and she's not a slouch in a fight either (if a touch on the fragile side for her points). She also adds a bit of extra manoeuvrability, if there are a few woods on the board. If you want a fluffy general she seems definitely worth a look.

Also, don't really see why you'd have such large units of Dryads. It's not like you can get rank bonuses or anything, so multiple smaller units would probably work out better and give you more potential flankers.

The Lamentation of Despairs can be really useful, though you have to be quite lucky for it to work well. Targeting wizards, preferably those with a none to stellar ld, can take them out of the game in one fell stroke, but you need be be able to actually cast it first. Here's where having a spellweaver comes in useful again, for drawing out dispel dice. They can also carry Divination Orbs for hand extra magical protection of your own.

Hope this helps!
