The result does not count for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

From the coronation
Archbishop: Will you to the utmost of your power maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel?

Will you to the utmost of your power maintain in the United Kingdom the Protestant Reformed Religion established by law?

Will you maintain and preserve inviolably the settlement of the Church of England, and the doctrine, worship, discipline, and government thereof, as by law established in England?

And will you preserve unto the Bishops and Clergy of England, and to the Churches there committed to their charge, all such rights and privileges, as by law do or shall appertain to them or any of them?

Queen: All this I promise to do

Technically this means the Queen shouldn't sign this bill, whether she does or not is another question entirely

This law doesn't affect any of the rights or privileges of the Church of England, nor does it force them to change their doctrine, how they worship, and so on.

Not seeing how she can't sign this bill, HL mk2.

From the bill linky

(1) A person may not be compelled to—

(a) undertake an opt-in activity, or

(b) refrain from undertaking an opt-out activity.

(2) A person may not be compelled—

(a) 10to conduct a relevant marriage,

(b) to be present at, carry out, or otherwise participate in, a relevant
marriage, or

(c) to consent to a relevant marriage being conducted,

where the reason for the person not doing that thing is that the relevant
15marriage concerns a same sex couple.

The first two lines are more what I had in mind, she has to maintain the laws of God and the Protestant faith

EDIT: I'm not saying personally whether or not she should sign I'm just pointing out a possible clause some people may attempt to put pressure on her to veto it

Nowhere in what you posted does it say that she can't sign into law things which go against the teachings of the CoE, just that she must maintain the CoE.

She'll need balls of steel to oppose a 225 vote majority.

I am slightly perplexed as to why the Tories introduced a bill that less than half of them voted for.

It is about time people started moving forward from doing things purely from a party bloc point of view. Though I suppose the half that voted no did so to prevent their rent boys from getting pushy in the relationship department
