Hey all. I have a solid list and several variants for my lovely Eldar, but other than the DE allies, I've just sort of ignored the other allies. Now I've started investigating into other options and I find that I'm in so far over my head that I can't even see the surface. So help me out please. What army, given ~600 points for 1 HQ, 1 Troop, and 1 Fancy Gizmo that you take them as allies for, works the best in general? I've looked at things like Tau Broadsides (bare minimum on troops and HQ), Grey Knight Purge Squads (throw an HQ in there and bare bone troops hang back), and several other variants. My favorite, and only functioning option right now is Lelith + Wyches. I put Lelith in a squad of Harlequins with a few farseers and she has made many an opponent cry. The issue is that DE troops can't fulfill the "sit back and give covering fire" niche that my eldar lack currently. When I allied at a doubles tournament with 'nilla SM, he had a few squads with the long range fire to hold things at bay while the Harlequins got into the fray. Given the average of 1750-2000pt games here, I can really use something to change up my somewhat stagnant lists.

Both players should be using the least durable units possible, with the house rule that all players remove an article of clothing every time you lose a unit, and take a drink every time you kill one of your opponent's units.
I have no idea which army will be triumphant, but I can assure you that everyone wins.

Guard are some of the best allies in the game if you need a solid fire base. While it is expensive money wise, you may want to look into that.

Sounds like your looking for Tau for sure, not only can they bring broadsides, but you can bring cheap TL Missile Pod crisis suits for more long range cover fire. Fire warriors make great home objective campers with their 30" range guns.

As mentioned IG and Tau make excellent shooty allies. I'd IG would be better since their units are dirt cheap.

Tau do have the advantage though imo because they can benefit from Book powers, like precience(sp?)
It takes a bit of luck but you will see many a Marine player quake with fear as their 10 man squad of Misfortuned Marines is hit by a 12 strong Fire Warrior unit with rerolls.

If you want a fast moving durable CC element I would recommend this Blood Angels contingent:
2x ASM Squads
1x Sang Priest with JP
1x Libby (or other) w JP
That should be right about on 600 and you've got fast moving angry marines spamming S5 CC attacks on the charge with FC and that extra survivability with FNP. Libby is obvs cheapest. It could cast buffs but you'll have RoW so no sense using its spell capabilities except to ID really powerful stuff. Basically there isn't much overlap between unit functions & you'll have some go-get-em scoring units.
