Saw it featured on Parks and Rec and it looked pretty fun. Is it enjoyable and how steep is the learning curve?

It's a great game, Takes less then 10 minutes to learn how to play, and is simple enough for a child to master. Yet still enjoyable for a group of adults.

I love this game! It's one of my first non-Milton Bradley boardgames I ever played. I love both the console versions and the physical version. The expansions are fun as well.

Everyone should have a copy of this game... and Agricola.

Love the game. It's a great non-gamer game too, meaning family and friends will enjoy it.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Settlers is, perhaps, the best game I have ever played. I can't recommend it enough.

Now showing Catachan Jungle Fighters and World War zombies!

I agree with all the above, my fiance bought this for me from some random outlet store and it's literally opened up the world of board games and other table top loveliness for my group of friends.

Cheers,

David.

p.s. Please remember that it's OK to laugh every time someone asks if someone else has wood...... that never gets old .

Know what really never gets old?

Having Wood for Sheep.

I have wood for sheep all of the time.

Also, I enjoy playing settlers of cataan, but prefer to use the Knights and Cities of Cataan Expansion.

Really? Why? I found the expansion took a lot of what I liked out of the game, and had some balance issues.

I would love Settlers of Catan to become the standard game people pull out to play, rather than Monopoly. I find Catan to be simple yet much more engaging. I just wish that the price wasn't so high, especially when you start factoring in all of the expansions.

I know a lot of people like the Knights & Cities expansion but personally, I like the Seafarers expansion better as it gives you something else to build, another way to link cities, allows you to do some exploration, and doesn't have the balancing issues that can potentially happen in Knights & Cities.

Settlers of Catan is a GREAT game. I've played it many times, and it's the kind of game that non-gamers can really get into as well.

I used to own a computer version of this game that had the worst AI for trades, which only made it all the more funny. 5 of one resource for 1 of another? Sure!

One of the best board games to date, buy it.

Hugely popular, huge number of spin offs, and one of the better gateway games for people who like Monopoly but you want them to like boardgames. I'd also recommend Pandemic and Ticket to Ride as easy-to-learn-fun-to-play games.

The website Boardgamegeek is generally a more popular spot for actual boardgames (as compared to miniature tabletop games). Plus you can see the zillions of expansions available for Settlers:

Same. The base game is great in it's own right. but the expansions offer some levels of more compelxity with extra rules and mechanics. Still pretty easy to learn though. Really good to play with a few friends.
