Hi, i'm thinking of exploring more HQ choices for my DA. I'm torn between Librarians and Chaplains so whats your view on them?

The best option from a tactical perspective is the Librarian. Divination powers are fantastic. Also he's dirt cheap.

what powers would you suggest?

Roll on the divination chart. Prescience is a great power, and as you get two, you can always take prescience and another power. They're all pretty good (except for precognition).

I'm a C:SM player, so I can't speak for the specifics of the DA HQs, but this should hold true.

Chaplains do one thing, and do it well. They wreck things in close combat, and make their whole squad better while they do it. There is no better HQ to lead a CC squad in my opinion.

Librarians are more flexible. They have all sorts of powers they can choose from. But they are random. You might not get the power you want, and you need to make a Ld check to use it. Which you will fail at the worst possible time. They provide a little bit of extra psychic defense, but not as much as they used to. A solid all-around HQ pick.

Librarians fit DA better than chaplains. We tend to be more of a gunline army and librarians running around with divination will greatly boost your abilities. Also Ezekial our Named Librarian is a little beast of a psyker (go look at him.)

Also Telepathy is hilarious good fun.

Now that mind worm power sounds pretty damn cool.
For each unsaved wound that models leadership, WS, BS and initiative are reduced by 3 for the rest of the game. (add ezikiel to basket)

Yeah and do forget if you stick him with a unit of Deathwing Knights they are all WS6 and if you took the watcher a 3+ deny the witch. This also works well with close combat equipped vets or even assault marines without jumppacks

Chaplins always work, make their unit fearless, allow great re-rolls to hit on the charge.

Librarians can always make use of their codex powers or roll randomly for other ones. Success is never guaranteed to get the power you want that way.

Psy defense also exists, making it harder to use powers and/or hard to make them work.

If you have a CC unit of death, add a chaplin. Otherwise, explore what your list needs.

Outside of specific choices like bike captains or certain SCs, librarians are by far the best loyalist marine HQ.
