Hey all
Thought I'd share my first few miniatures with you, never painted anything like this but always wanted to get into 40k
This is the start of my Space Wolves army
The guy in the middle needs basing and the one on the right needs his face fixing. I will say though that the camera does seem to make everything a bit richer and more red than it actually is
Few more -
Not up to the standard of a lot of the amazing work I've seen on here of course but it's a start
3 down, 12 more wolf guard and 5 terminators to go lol

If those are your first then.... DAMN that is one hell of a start
Only things that are really missing i think are washes and some edge highlighting.
The faces looks really flat try hitting them with Reikland Fleshshade and then go overthem again with a high light.
Not sure what wash will go well with SW armour.

Well if he will use one wash only, I would go with Agrax Earthshade. He has brown color on his models, so that would work well with those. Also brown could give a bit worn out look to armour. I'm not sure, but that is how I see it.

thanks a lot that's very encouraging, they are indeed my first, guy on right was 1st, the the left one then middle
I did actually put a wash on them but I think I've gotten myself a bit confused as to how best it's used.
I put down my base and then washed them badab black / nuln oil in order to darken then recessed bits then went over with my blues/greys.
I tried going over the blue with a wash but then it just made the armour look a totally different (and wrong) colour.

Great job man, its not too thickly painted and its inside the lines so you're halfway there. Rest is kung fu. Do again and again and again and get better.

For the Lion and Terra!
Because nothing in the galaxy is black and white, Mankind views the Space Marines as a last resort. The last line. When all else fails. They take up the burden. The noble defenders of Mankind. The last hope.
With finecast you can bypass the washing stage and throw them straight into the bin.
Or cut out the middleman and just flush some money down the toilet.

To be honest try doing a black ink wash on the armor it will make it pop more and give it that 40k look!

I appreciate the input but, I've been using washes and I think I am struggling go get it right.
When I use the wash it just makes the armour look grey, it looses that blue tint.
am I supposed to use base>wash>dry brush on top?

I'll get some of my next lot up here later, I've altered technique and think the more recent ones do look better.

You should try to thin down the wash and only apply it to the recesses and areas where you want your shadows to be. You might need multiple layers with thined down washes but by doing this you create a nice transition towards the shadowed parts of the model.

Not too shabby, not at all
Hit your fur with a drybrush of a lighter shade of brown, wash your armor (I also suggest a black wash), get a little lining in there for highlight, and you're on the fast track.
Wash the face with Ogryn Flesh (whatever the new GW color is, sorry). Or a thinned down Agrax Earthshade (50/50)
Nice work for a first off.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one? |
