Heyo,

I've recently gone back to work on my 10-years-in-the-making Imperial Guard army. When I started it out, the only plastic infantry were the (horrible) Catachans, but I made the best of it and gave them all rebreather heads and a bulky shoulderpad to give them a less-Rambo, more-industrial wasteland feel. Because of the poor availability of bits, I picked up an old Blanche trick of using the old Space Marine shoulderpads, laid flat and cut in half.

Now to the point. My thirty-something year old self don't agree with some of my twenty-something year old self's modelling choices. Many of the shoulderpads have been trimmed to very different thicknesses, and they look a bit too bulky and simplistic now. So, I'm thinking of replacing them with something slightly neater, which poses a problem because I'd need roughly a hundred of them.

In my mind, there are two options: Either look at the different GW kits and acquire the bits I need, or look at a third party manufacturer. However, everything I've found so far is either too rare (GW bits) or too big (Space Marine and Orc/Ork pads). Third party manufacturers make a lot of great stuff, but I've yet to find anything designed for human-sized models (it's all intended for Space Marines). So I'm here, fishing for suggestions. I'm hoping there's either a GW kit I've overlooked, or another manufacturer I didn't know about.

Depending on your skill level and how much you want to spend there will be a number of options.

For example, it shouldn't be too difficult to sculpt a pad from plasticard and putty, mould it as a single piece mould (you would want maybe 10 copies of this mould) and then cast them in resin.

To be fair, it will probably cost you £40 to get the chemicals, but you will have plenty left over and will have learnt another hobby skill.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Check out anvil industries thread in the news and rumours forum. They haven't been released just yet, but they're lining up a human scale range in the near future. Including shoulder pads i believe.

Near the bottom of page 38 is his to-do list. I've used a lot of his stuff on my space marines, really high quality and great service. Well recommended.
