Hey Dakkanauts.

So my friend and I are both playing SM for a team tourny in a few weeks. They only really requirments is that you can't have more then 2 units in the same slot, other then troops. So one person can take 2 heavies, and the other none, or each person can take 1 slot a piece.

Mine

HQ
Space Marine Librarian (140)
- Terminater
- Storm Shield

Elites
5 Sternguard Veterans (190)
- A mix of combi weapons (I need help here)
- Drop Pod

Troops
5 Scouts (135)
- Telion
-Camo

10 Tactical Marines (175)
-Melta
- Multi-melta

10 Tactical Marines (175)
- Flamer
- Plasma Cannon

Heavy Support
Predator (85)
- HB Sponsons

ADL w/ Quadgun

And my partners list

HQ
Space Marine Captain (195)
- Relic Blade
- Storm Shield
- Artificer Armor
- Bike

Elites
Ironclad Dreadnought (185)
- Drop Pod
- 2x Heavy Flamer

Troops
8 Space Marine Bikers (310)
- x2 Plasma guns
- Attack bike w/ MultiMelta

8 Space Marine Bikers (310)
- x2 Plasma guns
- Attack bike w/ MultiMelta

So there's our lists.

I'm still waiting for a thunderfire cannon to come in, that would take the place of the Pred. I also need help figuring out what combo I want for the combi weapons on the sternguard.

As for my friend we are torn between the ironclad and taking a storm talon. They survivabilty of both is sketchy at best. But there is a large contingent of ADLs in my local meta. As well as a lot of CSM and now DA players, so while there is a limit of 1 flyer per person, I expect to see many teams with 2 of them.

Thoughts?

given this consideration I'd suggest specializing on heavies and elites, with each of you taking two from one category and 0 from the other

Drop the Captain, he doesn't really add anything to your list and Isn't the best for the sternguard. I'd go with a Liby instead, give him some combination of GOI, Force Dome, Null Zone, Vortex

Good unit, but Sternguard work best with a multiple alpha strike. Given your point limitations you might think about 2x 5 man teams. When not combat squading always use synergystic weapons, ie all AT, or AI, don't mix and match as you'll only be shooting at one target. For this list I'd suggest doing one squad of 5x combi-meltas, and one of 5x combi-flamers or combi-plasmas. Combi-weapons are key, as if you manage to survive the first round of shooting you want access to the special ammo. You could also go with one big 10 man squad and drop the liby with them w/ GOI. They are more survivable this way and can hop around dealing out the pain, you're call. You're buddies bikes will also be helpfull for backing these guys up and splitting up target priority.

Too many troops for a 1k list. I'd trade in one of the tactical squads for more sterns. Also, pay the 10 pts and give Telions Squad the HB, hellfire rounds are nice. I'd also pop for a Lascannon over the MM in the 1st squad, and drop the melta for a flamer. The sterns will probably wind up being your up-close AT, use these guys for far out at. Combat Squad them and use the Sgt and flamer squad to screen your lascannon group. I'd do the same with the 2nd tac squad if you keep it, as I'm not a big fan of PCs, but it's your call.

Good selections, but if needed drop the pred to tool out your elite slots and trade that heavy slot to your buddy so he can have 2. Make sure Telion goes on the Quadgun.

The Captain works in his list as it gives him biker troops, still bikes are not the best in CC, I'd tend to tool him down a bit. He's already made the bikes scoring before the game begins, so in effect has done his job. Keep him alive by using him as a backfield harassment unit or using cover instead of spending 1/5th of your points on him. If he's embedded in a squad he'll get LOS rolls anyway.

I'd say this dosn't work the best with his army set up and that the points could be used elsewhere. Besides, single dreds tend to get shot to pieces before assaulting in turn 2, better to use the slot in your army for more stern for synergy or just let this one go.

Good troops, I'm assuming he'll be combat squading them For better use of cover, splitting fire, and objective grabbing. I'd mabey look at switching the plasmas in one squad for flamers, and the Atack Bikes might be better as single units for suicide attacks. He could also go with Suicide speeders (HF/HF or MM/MM), he could get two for the price of the dread if he drops it. This element of your army will be fast and effective.

If worried about fliers he could also take an ADL w/quad and have you're tac squad man it. It would give you more cover and better AA. Though if you go for two, give you'rse (with telion) the Icarus for better one shot capability.

The TFC is awesome, if you guys get to swap one in its a good deal for the points and super effective in 6th. If really worried about ADLs use the HF/HF speeders to clear them out.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the advice.

The first list doesn't have a captain, just the libby. I tried to make him survivable and I figure giving him force dome and Null zone will make the back field objective holders live incase someone sneaks behind our lines.

Between the sternguard and the dread dropping in their front lines we hope to disrupt them so we can get into proper positions. The double flamer on the dread can clear troops hiding behind an ADL. While I was thinking 5 combi-plas for the sternguard to play the anti tank/terminater.

Since we are playing against what amounts to other 2000pt armies, is 5 troops really too many? We will be playing book missions, so I suspect we will be playing mostly objective missions.

Ah, missed that. Must have confused the two lists. Keep the libby, I just wouldn't give him any upgrades.

I would say 5 troops is too many only if they are combat squaded. Between your tacticals and his bikes, you have the potential for 9 scoring units if combat squaded.
