I'm going to be picking up my first few boxes of Dark Angels marines in a couple weeks time and I've got a color scheme that I think will work well planned out (brass armour with black trim and white shoulders/tabards). I have a couple questions, however:

1) I was hoping to find a brass color primer to use for my models, but such does not appear to exist (at least, not in the Army Painter range that I normally use). Can anyone suggest a good source of brass color primer?

2) Regarding the Army Painter paints - I recently used these on my Orks with...mixed results. The blue, green, and metallics all worked wonderfully. The red and the yellow....less so. Is this a common problem with Army Painter or am I doing something wrong? (Unsure whether it's worth anything, but the colors were "Daemonic Yellow" and "Pure Red" being painted over a "Matt Black" primer)

3) I've heard that white is a particularly difficult color to work with, and being somewhat of a novice painter, I want to avoid complicating the job more than need be. Any tips on using white?

I appreciate any and all comments!

Thin the white quite a lot before you use it and do lots of coats, that way you'll get nice, consistent coverage and no blotches.

Edit: However, never used Army Painter Paints before only Citadel so I'm not sure what they're like. Others will know more.

Brass primer sounds rather unlikely. I assume you want a brass main colour. Why not spray prime grey, then spray with a metallic afterwards? Montana Gold do a "Copperchrome" which might work well.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

For white, start with light grey and work up. You really only want your highlights to be pure white.

Blah, that means twice as much money spent on spray paint!

I've never messed with thinning paints or painting in layers before (as I said, I'm quite the novice painter). I've only done solid coats for my Necrons and what Orks I have painted. Any links to useful guides on this?

regarding the white, dont use white untill the very end.

start with a grey. then mix up to a light grey. then finally a mix of white and light grey for your final highlight.

Sorry, dont have any tutorials to hand atm :(
