It has been thirty years since the plague ravaged Sub Terra Prime, turning man into ork, and a once thriving fortress world into a wasteland of war and conflict. No one is quite sure how the plague started; some say the 201st PDF regiment contracted it while on maneuvers on the southern continent. When they returned from active duty they were in the incubation period, and when they returned home they spread the infection across the entire planet. Soon the symptoms began to appear, green spots on the skin, red pupils, teeth falling out. There was no way to contain the plague, and soon every man woman and child on the planet was either showing symptoms, in the incubation period, or an immune carrier. In order to keep the plague from spreading off world the imperium imposed a blockade and quarantine, as the planet was too valuable to be subject to exterminatus, and the plague too virulent to land a purging force.
In the months that followed those infected began to change, the males lost most of their intelligence as their muscle mass increased, becoming full orks. The women were not so lucky, something about the plague did not like a second X chromosome, and the women became something much more dangerous than an ork. Their bodies twisted and changed until they became what the orks dubbed “weresquigs” blood mad beasts that would attack anything that moved. Many wives made their husbands promise that when they turned to put a bullet in their head to stop them from killing their own families.
In that dark hour when all hope seemed lost a single mechanicus magos labored to try and save the planet. He was Magos Blackmane, and his lack of organic parts made him immune to the plague’s effects. In his lab he devised a means to save what he could of Sub Terra Prime, to fling a light into the future. He discovered that by slowing the metabolism of the infected the intelligence deprivation of the plague would be mitigated. He had the auto-sages draw up a list of those who possessed the necessary skills to rebuild the planet after the plague had run its course. He could not stop the plague from turning them into orks, but he could save their human minds. Those chosen to be saved were made to disappear and sedated before being placed in cryo tubes to slow down their metabolism. Many did not go quietly, and there were casualties. Once “the sleepers” as they had become called were gathered their tubes were placed in underground vaults with about twelve sleepers to a vault. The vaults were sealed underground to emerge in thirty years. Now the vaults are surfacing and the sleepers are awakening all across the planet. This is the story of one vault and its sleepers, Vault 25, the vault containing the sleepers with the most unrealized potential of them all.

Hello again all, my past projects have really all been historical in nature, but now I want to do something a little more contemporary/ futuristic. so I'm going to make an ork army based more on modern combat with a little bit of post apocalyptic stuff for seasoning. my previous ork army was in my mind too uniform, and I want to break away from that. right now what I need is some good inspiration to give me some ideas of how I can make each soldier unique. most of my inspiration so far has been the facebook game War Commander:

however I'd like to expand my sources to some more contemporary stuff. I've been trying to look at stuff like Call of Duty, but trying to get a look at the soldiers in the game is not working for me. I've also been looking around for some near-future RTS games, but I'm not quite sure where to look. does anyone know where I could find some good inspiration for this kind of project?

My Cold War NATO IG, love to know what you think
