Hello everyone my Name is Jim.

I haven't played 40k since third edition when me and a friend with identical Space Marine forces would battle each other on his mums dining table after school. I recently had an urge to start painting and playing again. I want to do it properly this time around and improve my painting and get involved at Games Workshop or in a local club in some small tournaments and friendly games.

As my old army was sadly destroyed in a garage fire some years ago I'm having to restart. I went for imperial guard this time around as I like the idea of a force of ordinary men who have to go off and face the horrors of the galaxy. I always enjoyed reading the fluff on Imperial Guard and novels like Gaunt's Ghosts and 13th Legion. At the moment I'm just selecting my force on what I find thematically most appealing so I think I've probably made some poor choices and will almost certainly lose quite badly in my first couple of games until I get my tactics sorted. So far I've bought the battleforce, a Leman Russ and a Valkyrie.

I thought I would invent a world for my guard to come from and choose a unique colour scheme for them so I went for grey fatigues and black armour with a white and red stripe on the shoulders. Later I was looking on google images for some inspiration on how to jazz up my Valkyrie and stumbled across RandyMcStab's imperial guard thread over here and I was shocked to see he'd got there first and done a much better job of it too! I had a look around and the forum seems a great place to chat about wargaming and get some good advice on tactics and painting so I thought I would barge in and make myself comfortable.

Thanks for the welcome guys I think I will start a little blog soon. I've been trying to paint too much at once at the minute and got bogged down with a lot of half completed models so I'm going to change tack and finish one thing at a time. First up is a sentinel walker, when that's done I'll start my blog.
