This may seem like a strange question, but it came up today at my loal gw. Space marine player running a techmarine with thunder fire cannon was shot at by ap2 weapon. Player claims the techmarine has a +4 invul save. Iv never heard of a a stock techmarine having an invul. I ask him how and he claims the servo harness gives him an invul. I look in the space marine codex for this and I find nothing. I ask where it says this and he says according to 6th edition rules the techmarine gets an invul. He goes to further say he has had this ruled on at tournaments and can show me on the forge world army builder that it says the techmarine gets an armor save for a fully ungraded servo harness. Am I missing something or is he confused? Keep in mind this player also thought stock terminators had a +4 invul. Tzeench terminators yes, but space marine terminators no. Once again he claimed that in a tournament he played in the terminators had +4 invuls. So how does a normal techmarine get a +4 invul?

Yeah, Techmarines don't have a 4+ Invuln. They can fortify a piece of terrain giving that terrain +1 to cover (so 5+ cover becomes 4+ cover).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

He is lying, unless there is a special FW termy with a 4+ invo, and similar rules for a special FW techmarine. short of that, he's lying.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

GK Terminators with NF Swords have a 4+ invul.

But yeah, he was mistaken. ID hesitate to call it lying or cheating without better context though.

Alright so I haven't gone crazy. I wasn't playing in the game, I was just monitoring to help out with rules. The other player didn't want to press the issue but it bothered the hell out of me. Been doing this for 18 years and I have space marines and chaos marines. Techmarine with an invul rattled my brain a bit with just how strongly the guy defended his position on it.

The mention of forgeworld makes me wonder, could he have been using Cataphractii terminators and not properly explained that he was using their forgeworld armour rules?

in the Horus Heresy books, normal terminators can swap over to have Cataphractii armour, they get a 4+ invuln instead of 5+, but become slow and purposeful.

Still not sure why he would think the Techmarine had a 4+ because if it was Horus Heresy a) It couldn't take a servo-harness and b) the best it can get is a 5+ invuln from a refractor field.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

As far as im aware it was just a 10 man termi squad with stormbolters powerfists/chainfists, a cyclone missile launcher, and a sarge with stormbolter and powersword.

Unfortunately no, otherwise there wouldn't have been a problem. Just Ultramarines and your standard run if the mill techmarine with a thunder fire cannon.

Techmarines can only fortify a ruin, making it a 3+ save.

No techmarine without terminator armor that isn't forgeworld has an invul.

The named Techmarine for the Astral Claws, Master of the Forge Armenneus Valthex (Forge World Imperial Armor 9 or 10) has a 5+ Invulnerable save.

Black Templars Tech Marines can take Terminator Armor, which would grant a 5+ invulnerable save.

The Techmarine in the Codex:Space Marines does not have an Invulnerable save.

Dark Angel Techmarines can fortify any terrain in their deployment zone. I had thought that the Erratas changed other Techmarines to the same wording but apparently I was wrong.
