Hi guys. Long time lurker, recently posting. I wanted to share what little I've managed to accomplish in my current army project, a nilla/DA DIY marine chapter.
The fluff is a long way from being hammered out, but the shadow knights are basically a secretive SM chapter with a less organized command structure. Some operations go down by the codex astartes and that's where the nilla portion comes in. Specialized missions bring a more tailored response alla DA elements. Also they're really ashamed of something from back in the day.

Anyway this is the P&M forum so lets get down to the images... Most of this stuff falls into the vanilla category:

Shadow Knight tactical squad 1. Basically done, though I may add squad markings at some point. The banner is also a placeholder.

Closer up of the "command" combat squad. The nonstandard bits are just for decoration.

The "heavy" combat squad, bolters and multimelta.

Same squad, shown with its rhino. APC could be better but I'm happy with it until I have a finished army.

Veterans/Sternguard pending list. I'm looking into using a darker highlight on the cloth to make it look
softer than it does what with having the same highlight as the rigid armor plates.

First unit of bolter scouts. The guy in the back belongs in the next squad.

Kit/scratch/bashed Thunderfire Cannon. Lot of loose bitz, little sheet styrene, bit of greenstuff.
Still working on finishing the techmarine that will go with it.

Tactical squad, terminators (need bases) and a scout showing off with a side project.

There are a few more images in my gallery, but the gist of it is here.

These guys are meant to be gamed with. I'm not a great painter and I'm really eager to hammer out a project to the end (for once), so little things will get left alone until I've achieved some significant progress.

Having said that comments and criticism are more than welcome. While I may not go back and fix/change these guys for awhile, I've got lots more to build and paint, and I'm not afraid to try out some good advice.
Thanks so much for looking

Look great to me, I'd be pleased to see these across the table from my army on a game day.

It's easy to fall into the trap of black on black with this sort of scheme. The grey lightens the whole army quite wonderfully. My only CC is probably going to be maybe you should do something to lighten the bases?

Overall, good OSL in the eyes; I can't say how impressed I am with the effort put in to the chips.

Good job!

Love em. Great scheme. Definitely a less is more kind of paint job. The blue eyes match the dusty grey black perfectly.

Thanks so much guys! Encourages me to keep plodding along.

Zilegil: I agree the base ring almost draws too much attention with its contrast.. I'll have to look into my options as I don't love them that way either. And if you meant that the grey was too dark/similar I also agree. The bases have the least consistency so far.. moving forward I may switch greys or mix in a little white and or dilute the wash more.

I love the very subtle chipping effect, and that thunderfire cannon is fantastic!

Awesome paint job, bud! I feel like this is one of those paint schemes that lose a lot of the details under overhead house lights, but under hobby stores fluros/natural day light everything comes together and looks stunning.

I think a quick way to provide a little more contrast would be to take a weathering powder to them. You could try an old earth/dust sort of colour and hit the lower half of the legs and some of the other areas that might see a little grime. Test it out on a model that you can dunk in some water in case you don't like the effect.

Overall though, really crisp details and highlights. Your OSL is stunning (you guys really want to zoom in on those pictures to take in the details) and the battle damage is really well done!

Thanks guys you are far too kind!

jawn: I've been wanting to try some weathering powders, just haven't gotten around to it. They do need something though, they're all beat up but they're beat up in a vacuum.. there isn't enough of a sense of where they've been.

Your kind words and suggestions are fuel for further hobbying guys, I'll make more additions to the gallery as I get things (slowly) completed.
