Hi,
i recently started a necron army and am quite intrigued with the C'Tan's. i know they are overpriced but thats quite a plus for me because a) i want a small army which is easy to transport and b) i want to avoid the impression that i field cheese ^^

now i have to say that i feel that something is missing in all c'tan models. my problem however is that i dont know what or which model would look better.
i will try here to build from scratch a night bringer.

my idea is basically a large floating and billowing cloak with a nice necron head under a cowl. not sure yet if i try to include arms or not.

i started with a simple wire armature with a bit hotglue for substance followed by a bit aluminium foil. then i spread a rather large ball of epoxy putty, tore the edge a bit of and draped that over the base.

im not sure yet if i should use this cowl or sculpt one onto the cloak. i think this one looks nice already but maybe a bit too.... cute? a bit like little red riding hood ^^ what do you think?

I like the cloak and the cowl, but I'm not sold on the arms yet. The hands look good, but oyu'd still need to file a lot of the detail off the arms.

Thanks for the comment mate. i was starting to think that nobody likes my sculpting

here a small update:

thats only the structural support. after this i will cover the the whole front with cloak and long flowing sleeves.

actually i was also not sold on the arms so i just hid them ^^

tell me what you think

I like that. I'd skip the cowl and try and find a good head to use.

Looking good so far. Just some small things to note:

With those large hands and how he is currently posed he looks like having very short arms. You could bulk out the shoulder area to strengthen the impression that there are indead arms under there and he just has spread the to the side a little bit. Or sculpt some more folds on there.

The folds and the material of the cloak could be a little bit smother. You probably can't sand them down so you should fill those cracks with more material. I don't have experience with the putty you are using but some water and your fingers should be enough to smooth it.

As for the folds, there are tutorials out there for natural looking folds for painters that can probably be applied to sculpting as well.
Just some examples:

@ btldoomhammer
Thanks for the comments. actually no surfaces are ready yet. i will smooth out everything as soon as i have totally closed the sculpt. also i will ad more fold on the front but i think not on the back. the short arms are also one of my concern but i think there isnt much i can do about it except cracking everything up again. when i checked the layout i didnt expect that i have to do the front layers to thick. so i guess he will be just called mr. stubby arms ^^

also i have been looking around for heads in case that i will give up the cowl but havent found anything nice yet. i guess i will go with the cowl then, but also there still not sure whether to use the one shown here or to sculpt one directly attached to the cloak.

p.s. the guide on deviant art is amazing
