Hello Everyone.
I am getting back into 40K after a long absence and I'm building an Imperial Guard Army. I don't want to do Gatachan or Cadians. I was thinking about Valhallans but wondered what the most popular armies other than Cadians and Gatachans people played the most. Thanks in advance for any input.

Valhallans are sweet, 'cause they're Space Soviets.

I've got Cadians for my normal infantry, catachan for my vets and steel legion in addition because i was stupid enough to start a new guard army...sigh...but I love them...

Do any of you use Proxy figures? One reason that I don't plan on using Gatachan or Cadian is I'm not thrilled with the look. Does anybody know of good figures to use as proxies? Maybe plastic as I'm not a big fan of metal but would rather use nice looking metal figures over The Cadian or Gatachan.

Pig Iron do some awesome looking Guard type stuff, especially heads. They'd be worth a look!

Agreed! I use the greatcoat troopers from wargames factory with pig iron heads and Cadians arms and guns. They give you awesome looking steel legion proxies! I also have the pig iron system troopers for my storm trooper squads. Check em both out, plus the great coat troopers are dead cheap!

MY brother uses a bunch of bolsheviks for his valhallan conscripts, but I couldn't tell you what company made them, sorry. ^^;

Victoria Miniatures have lots of nice guard stuff.

I actually always liked praetorian guard..

Plus it was really funny seeing a guy who played praetorian being matched up against a guy he had never met with a feral ork army that was zulu themed.
