Do you have any ideas of what units you want to include?

I asked this of a local chaos player recently. He said the best way to do it would probably be to take a giant horde of the cheapest possible bolt pistol+CCW dudes with khorne marks and icons and stuff.

Berzerkers are apparently in no way worth running at the moment.

Oh, and I've seen someone running a pair of khorne lords on juggernauts with an axe of blind fury and a black mace, and has been having some success with them.

I definitely want to run berzerkers, and a khorne lord. Although in the current edition, berzerkers seem to have lost their bite, I generally run orks.... so berzerkers are a step up in that one.

Bezerkers are still good, the Chaos player in my group does well with his Khorne army, WS5, Rage, Hatred, Furious Charge and Counter attack work well together

But can't you get those things outside of berzerkers? I was told that you can kit up regular CSM to be the exact same as berzerkers except you can't get proper chainaxes, and you don't get fearless.

And for those rather minor losses, you get to take special and heavy weapons, and they're much cheaper.

They're still 19 points for guys that die like marines to gunfire.

The difference is marginal. Covered extensively in this thread.
For all intents and purposes, if you wanna run berzerkers as a dedicated close combat unit, go ahead.

edit: they are certainly far from "in no way worth running"

I've been pondering a while now what options to take for a similarly themed force.

Here is an example of what I'll likely be considering. Mind its not meant to be super competitive, but stand its ground and fun to play at the local game stores.

Kharn The Betrayer
165 Points

TROOPS

Cultists
x 30, 3 x Flamer/Heavy Stubber, 10x autoguns
155 Points

Zerkers
x 8, x 2 Plasma Pistols, Champion w/ Plasma Pistol & Power Axe
212

Raptors
x8, x2 meltaguns, Mark of Khorne, Champion with power weapon and melta bombs, Icon of Wrath
217

749 points. Personally I'll be using ork boyz models cultists, for a few reasons... anyways, you could drop plasma pistols to save some points, add a couple more zerkers and icon of wrath..
one thing to consider is, if you're running zerkers they need a delivery method. which is A) saturating bodies, or B) a transport. in either case some sort of distraction helps.
this is just my personal taste, I'm not saying its the best but to give you an idea of what you can do. you could take terminators instead of raptors, a maulerfiend, heldrake or even a land raider.
what ever you like.

proxy some lists using models you have, and see what you like the most.

Berzerkers aren't horrible, and similarly kitted CSM are about the same price, depending on squad size for the icon, but cant have WS5 (big difference) and fearless at the same time as furious charge (also big difference).

The main thing to remember with them (and khorne csm as well) is they REALLY loose steam after that first round of combat. They charge really hard, but then turn into regular gakky marines with no staying power. They either need a hard hitting IC to tip the scales, or reinforcements from other units. 8 bererkers by themselves in comat will kill one unit, but if the combat goes on more than a few rounds, they will grind themselves out quickly.

I personally use berzerkers on a foot as a followup assault wave behind spawn, bikers, and daemons. They usually get to combat fine as they arent a target priority.
