While browsing the book, I noticed how a Warpsmith with the mark of Khorne equiped qith the axe of blind fury could be a pretty nasty little guy.
Think of it, for 155 pts you get:

- Between 9 and 13 attacks on the charge (2 base +2 for mechatendrils +1 for havine a ccw and a bolt pistol +2 for charging with Rage and between +2 and +6 for Daemon weapon).
- 5 attacks (possibly 6 if he succeds his counter-attack Ld check) and another +2 to +6 from daemon weapon if he gets charged!
- Str 6, Ap 2 attacks.
- 2+ save, and can still sweep advance (compared to terminator armor)
- Got a meta gun and a Flamer wich can both be fired before assaulting
- Shattering defences is a little bonus.
- He can curse enemy vehicules or repare hir ride on a 4+

The downside I see for him is his WS3 (because of the axe), his Initiative of 4 and T4 (insta-death problems).

What do you think ?

That sounds pretty mean for 155 points. Put him in a landraider and grab some skulls.

Thats why I thought of running him with a ritinue of cheap cultists in a land raider. Also the Cultist champion with take his place for the ''Champion of chaos'' rule.

That won't work, even the minimum cultist squad plus a character won't fit in a LandRaider.

Lord is cheaper and has better equipment options (can take Sigil of Corruption that the Smith can't, for example).

That is just the problem with the DA and WS... maybe if they had options to be a lvl 1 psyker (or 2 with Mark of Tzeentch) for 25-50pts or at least the Special Issue choices they might be more on par with the Lord or Sorc as viable options. 'Lesser' versions should have been given a chance to be taken as Elite slots as well, IMO. But because they are not on par, they really only work for fluffy lists. One of the aspects of the Codex that really let me down... like having to pay for armor on a Prince. What? No one who wears Terminator armor ever becomes a DP? Ny Terminator champ might as well be a spawn then if I roll Prince. I have to roll for everything else for half an hour before I play a game, but I can't roll my own deamon weapon, much less one based off of the power I might be following?

Sorry, rant off.

I'm always amazed at how cheap a chaos lord is lol!

I guess what appealed me the most with the warpsmith was the +2 attacks from the mechatendrils and the base 2+ save.

The WS3 is a huge downside especially in challenges.

One of my friends plays Chaos Marines, and he takes a stock WS with mark of nurgle, and it has earn far more than its points back each game he's used it. First game, it killed half a terminator squad and held up a termie chaplain for 4 rounds of combat (and thus halting the process of my Hamminators through his line) before finally killing him, getting Slay the Warlord in the process.

His 2nd game he managed to machine curse to death a Necron Monolith! The end result was this saved his Noise Marines and left a big ass LOS blocking piece of terrain in the middle of the battlefield.

in addition, nothing in that squad is fearless. Thus even if the enemy doesnt kill your warpsmith easily at init 5, you could end up losing combat due to the cultists dieing. Then you run and get swept. By by warlord.

but the chaos lord has +1 attack(base), +1 wound, +2 WS, +1 init, and is signifigantly cheaper.

With the Warpsmith you are really paying for, silly rules, the 2+ save and the power axe that is built in. Cursing vehicles isnt very useful. If kitted for combat, the flamer and meltagun arent very useful. In short the warpsmith is a friendly support character that hangs back and can do a lot of different things.
