Hey Guys, I'm tossing up between the following Lords for my khorne army... let me know which one you think is better. Chaos Lord Mark Of Khorne Axe of blind fury sigil of corruption 135pts Warpsmith Mark Of Khorne Axe of blind fury 155pts they both have ups and downs, the Warpsmith has a melta gun and flamer, can curse vehicles has a 2+ armor save. where as the lord has the 4+ invulnerable save, better stats and is 10pts cheaper.....They both strike at S6 Ap2 due to the axe of blind fury.... im leaning towards the warpsmith... but I need help on this one.....

Afaik Warpsmiths can't take Juggernauts, which makes this even more of a pointless discussion. Even if they could get them you would take the Chaos Lord every time purely based on the extra wound and Initiative. You can drop the combi melta since that's completely pointless and loses you an attack, and in practice you can often get away with not having the invulnerable as well, which brings the points cost way down. Once you surround the character with 35 Cultists you hardly need any defense at all, you only need the invun for challenges (which you want to be avoiding anyway to just wipe entire units with the Lord) and even then its not that important since most characters go at the same time and find it difficult to get through 4 T5 wounds in a single round. In return the Chaos Lord is going to absolutely bury a single character unless they have a 3++ or are T8 or something (Wraithlords for example).

I would not put a combi melta on your lord. You give up an attack because you have to trade your pistol for it, and the Axe makes you fire it at bs4 instead of 5. Crimson is right, all of the mounts are Lord / Sorc only.

Ah I missread the codex. I normally run a lord in a squad of berzerkers with just the mark and axe, no other upgrades.

Chaos Lord
Mark Of Khorne
Axe of blind fury
Juggernaut of khorne
sigil of corruption
Combi Melta
180pts
Warpsmith
Mark Of Khorne
Axe of blind fury
Juggernaut of khorne
190pts

the warpsmith has base WS 4, so giving him the axe of blinding furry makes him WS3, hitting guardsmen on 4s.... He is also Init 4, meaning you are gonna get punked a few times, even with the 2+ save there are a lot of init 5 attacks.

I have updated the post to take out the Juggernaut as it is not a legal move. people are still leaning towards the lord tho? im a big fan of the meltagun on the Warpsmith because that way he can pop a vehicle and then assault the squad inside but other than that and the flamer ability the lord has him beat...

The Warsmith is a support character that can do ok in combat if he has to. A Khorne Lord on a Juggernaut is an engine of destruction capable of wiping out entire units single-handedly. It's not even a comparison.
A warpsmith is best used in the rear reparing daemon engines, vindicators, and whatever machines need repair. If something gets close enough to threaten he has various options to help deal with them, but he isn't going to be out hunting other units. If he is, then things went very badly, or you're doing it wrong

further, the warpsmith is only so so where as chaos lords are down right competitive. Warpsmiths come with a power axe, so adding an expensive weapon to them means you are wasting points you already spent on them.

Lord.
Now, if You have a Lord and you don't want a second one and you want to be mono Khorn you need to compair the WP and DA against the DP or a named character.
I can actually see an arguement for the Dark Apostle to ride shotgun with your Lord in a huge squad of Zerkers and see his special abilities really shine. But you have to ask yourself 'What if that was another Lord... or DP... or a named character. Is this doing what I want it to do or would one of those other choices do the same thing, better?' Man... unless your /really/ loving those special abilities, it is hard to beat a Lord for the points spent. Personally, I couldn't do mono-Khorn because I love the Sorc so much. Good luck to ya, is all I can say. I think mono-Khorn can be super nasty, but I couldn't see doing it without Kharn, Abby, dual Lord or Dual Prince. It just feels like you really want beat-stick HQ shoices to go with it.

If your swapping out the warsmiths power axe for the axe of blind furby, your losing 15 points. Your not getting any discount on the furby axe for losing the power axe.
Combined with the ability to give your Khorne lord a Juggernaut, the lord is a much better choice.

neither put the lord on a bike or juggie, then you are in business.

Go for the Lord w/ Juggernaut. Since you're going to want to get him into CC as quickly as possible, the bonus to movement speed (not to mention Hammer of Wrath) makes him well worth the points investment, IMHO.
Truly a frightening (yet cuddly) weapon.
