Just wondering if anyone had any experience with WW1 miniature games. I've been reading a lot of stuff about WW1 recently, and wanted to find a reason (regardless of how flimsy) to find a ruleset and order some stuff off Renegade Miniatures. Obviously this would mean that the rules should work for 28mm mini's or be easily modified so that they do.
Help a fella out!

There was a couple of articles in Wargaems illustrated dealing with a groups display game dealing with Mons. They used a set of rules they created themselves with a fair degree of success.
I don't have either issue to hand but a look on the WI site should have the details.
Also didn't Warhammer historical do aset of rules, there should be a fair few of this kicking about on the webz.

Are you looking at the early stages of the war or the trench warfare period? Most WW1 rules tend to be aimed at one or the other.
I've heard good things about Through the mud and the blood by two fat lardies. I've not played any TFL games myself, but I hear nothing but praise for them.

Definitely looking for the trench warfare rules I think. That said I'll have to see whats out there for the earlier portions of the war as well. I'd have to agree about the TFL rules.
I also had a look at the WI stuff on the website. Out of that the two rules sets that seem to be the best bet are the TFL ones and Warhammer Historicals 'The Great War'. Only issue now is finding a copy...

Krush the Kaiser is a good set of rules, had a good write up in a wargaming magazine (cant remeber the name, not minuature wargames or wargames illustrated, the other one)

Before they ceased to exist, Warhammer Historical did a ruleset called "The Great War" which was supposed to be pretty good. There was one supplement for it, I believe it was called "Over the Top!" You could probably find a copy floating around somewhere.

So far finding even a copy of the original rules has proven to be rather expensive. The two copies I've seen for sale have both been more than 100 dollars for the core rule set. My googlefu may just be weak though

It's still expensive, but Amazon seems to have used copies in the $80 range. You might be able to find one cheaper but it could take awhile.

The TFL Through the Mud & the Blood rules are £8 to download from their site. Great rules set with the feel of the period if you ask me. TFL rules are quite different from many other manufacturers rules and you either like them a lot or not. If you're a hardcore competetive player or you just want to get some miniatures on the table and throw some dice they might not be what you're looking for. But if you're interested about the period and how to present it on tabletop in somewhat realistic but still fun manner then I can't recommend the rules enough for you!

This was the reason I got out of GW games for the most part. Just sick of power gamers. While I do want an excuse to get the WW1 models, having a good ruleset to back them up can only be a good thing. Will most likely be downloading them later today and placing my orders for the models shortly after.
I'll be sure to post some pictures when I get the models! Thanks for the help!

Out of curiosity does anyone know roughly how long renegade miniatures takes to ship to North America?
